Did you crack the diff, or just the diff cover? BFC classifieds. Though if it's just the cover, i'd just source a new cover. A brand new one is $100.

Keep an eye out for auto guys selling 3.38 on bfc, perfect time to throw that in if your diff is in fact cracked.

a diff cover off of a 325/328 will work just as well.

If it's the cover, go to a salvage yard and take $20 cash with you and a 15mm (I think) socket on a breakover bar.

how do the covers crack? when people mistaken the diff for a good jacking point? :/

Believe it or not, the differential was a factory recommended jack point on my s2000.

It is on a lot of cars...my 2005 WRX included.

Just so you don't feel so bad, I cracked my stock diff cover while changing the fluid 5+ years ago. I went to re-tighten the drain plug (without using a torque wrench) and got that terrible feeling in my stomach as the plug suddenly got loose and a crack split the cover from the drain hole to the bottom of the cover.

Allowed me a reason to install the RE Finned diff cover, though...

Over-torquing the drain/fill plugs will crack it easier than you'd think.
