    Hardwire Radar Problems...

Ok so tonight I was working on hard wiring my Valentine 1 to the upper center console light using this DIY... http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/v1.htm

I ran into problems when the connectors I was using were to small and completely cut the positive and negative upper center console light wires, purple w/white and solid brown wires. When this happened I figured no problem I will just twist all 3 wires together and cap it (the wire I accidentally cut and the radar wire keeping positive and negative all lined up) and everything will work out. Wrong, nothing is working now, even if I leave the radar wire out and just try and put the wires I accidentally cut back together the lights still wont work. And now the 2 lights to the side of the center light don't work and the worst part of all, my sunroof switch isn't working and my sunroof is open.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve all of this??? Why isn't just reconnecting the wires working??? Why does my sunroof not work now???

    I hate electronics.

    Thanks.

obvious question, but did you check the fuses?

Yeah, I checked the fuses and that fixed the upper middle light that comes on when the doors are open, this is the light that I cut the wires to so it only works now when I touch the wires together, these are also the wires that I plan on taping for the radar detector.

My problem is still the 2 upper round map lights that are next to the light that comes on when the door is open and the sunroof wont close, I've tried the corresponding fuses and that didn't work. Are these connected in any way? I know that the 2 round lights worked sometime after I cut the wires to the center light cause I tested them after I cut the wires but they don't work now.

And I was an idiot and should've shut my sunroof before I started but I didn't anticipate any problems with it since it's a completely different wiring harness.

Is fuse number 1 the only fuse associated with the sunroof???

I'm stumped, the light with the cut wires works when I touch the wires together (fixed by replacing fuse), but the 2 round lights that I never touched don't work now and the sun roof which i never touched doesn't work???

It's gotta be a fuse somewhere...

Is the radar detector still in the circuit? If it is, remove it, return all wires to their original positions, and use a test light or voltmeter to start tracing down circuits. You should be able to see if you're getting power to the sunroof switch. If you are, you can eliminate a bad fuse. You'll then look to the switch or a bad ground. Once you have this sorted, you can try to reinstall the detector. NOTE: I find it is always safer to wire directly to ground rather than using one of the factory wires.

I wired mine up like this and had no issues. Be sure you're reconnecting the right wires and check fuses. That's all I can come up with.

I ran my V1 wire down to the cig lighter, that way I could wire up my mute switch next to the ASC swuitch.

Wow!!! Ok I got it figured out and all put back together with the radar installed.

Basically I guess my problem was fuses, for some reason about 5 of my fuses popped and there are fuses that are associated with with things other than they are labeled. It seems both the roll-over prevention fuse and the Motronic fuse are associated with this upper center console lights and/or sunroof. Maybe??? Anyways I replaced all fuses for interior lights and these 2 and everything works now.

Thanks M3F!!! Sitting down and brainstorming through this really helped.
