    Diff bushings

While doing the rear subframe bushings I noticed that the 3 differential mount bushings were cracking. I track this car regularlly. Does anyone have any experience with the VAC solid bushings in the e36 M3?

    Any others that would work?

There are only three options that I have found, a) derlin front w/ solid cover bushings, b) solid at all three points, c) oem. I am going with oem, as they lasted 200k+ and only cost like $16. Even bimmerworld says they are good for track.

makes me feel alittle better about staying OEM with this one part.

How do you feel about gear wine? If you LOVE it, go solid, otherwise stay OEM.

depends on set up...its not THAT bad with an interior and oem subframe mounts...

imo. (thats what im running right now).

there wasnt much of an increase in gear noise. A little yes... Its kinda cool(and not even close to being over bearing or harsh). it only shows itself at certain rpm/load conditions and if i have music on at reasonable levels. I dont hear it at all.

To the OP. Why did I go with them? I bought a big box of new assorted bushings and they were in there. Thats all.

In addition to OEM rubber, aluminum, and delrin, there are poly diff bushings. I would not run all solid except on a track car, but Turner suggests that using solid for the two ears and poly for single front bushing is not overly harsh on the street. I use poly diff bushings from AKG and my car is a still a street car.

I too will be putting in the poly AKG diff bushings this winter.

I've got the AKG Poly diff bushings. They're more like hard plastic/nylon than what most people consider conventional "poly".

In any case, the increase in gear whine is definitely noticeable. I don't mind it, and it's most noticeable at lower speeds, say around 35-40mph. Cruising I don't notice it much at all. I DD my car from late April through November.

If you like a quiet, cushy ride then anything other than OEM diff bushings aren't for you.

Note: I also have all poly in the back of my car on everything except the sway bar bushings, new wheel bearings, new ball joints, etc...- whole rear subframe was overhauled and reinforced so it transmits more gear whine than a car with an otherwise stock subframe.

Good choice, Jon! I picked up the front AKG bushing from David yesterday... he was out of the ear bushings. We need to get back out to TGPR again!
