Simply having any tint will help drop cabin temps in the summertime. The biggest caveat is the darker you go, the more difficult it is to see at night. Your eyes will strain when trying to focus from looking out the clear winshield to out one of the tinted windows. Personally, I always get one the LIGHTEST shades possible because the 5% was so dark I couldn't even see people in the backseat!

In terms of appearance, tint looks darker on dark interiors. You have dove interior so there's no point in going too dark since the white seats will always contrast through the glass .

Agree with Eric; light tint is better on dark cars.
Any opinion on 50%? I like the no tint look, but enjoy the benefits inside the car. Planning to replace my old purple tint with something light or maybe no tint.

5% is WAY too dark... I got a car in on trade with 5% at work and I couldn't see the car I parked next to in the dark. That being said, I've had tints on 5 of my cars, including 35%, 20%, and 15%. Both of my current cars have 20%, as I like it a little bit darker and I have zero visibility issues at night. I found that the 35% was a bit too light for my liking, and haven't found anything inbetween 35 and 20, but I wouldn't be opposed to 25-30 if it was available.

Hard to tell from this picture, but here are both my cars @ 20%

I have either 15% or 20% on my TV. It's really not bad at night. Like Jvit said, it appears lighter with the Dove interior--especially with a sedan.

Wow. Hard to believe those are both 20%... Just goes to show you the effect that contrast has on your perception of the darkness.

And I agree. I do a lot of my driving after dark (especially this time of year) and have had zero issues with 20%.

All that having been said, OP, if the shop recommends 35%, I'd go that route. Seems like it would be a good match for the Techno. If nothing else, you will love the difference it makes in the summertime...

The PO of my Z28 put limo on it when he first got it. No wonder he put only 30K miles on it in ten years. the first time i drove it in teh rain I was stopped at a light and had to open teh window to see the intersection. Fourth generation F bodies dont have drip rails, and when teh wiper wiped it all went on my leg.

The next weekend it was in a tint shop. The lightest tint was put on the windows. We didnt touch the hatch because of the hassle it would have been.

I had a 4th Gen Z28 with some work to it. Loved that car, but it was auto and I just got sick of that! I'd post photos but my personal site is blocked here at work.

Looks sharp, man. Dakar almost needs tint, imo...

I do not know what the tint is on my fiance's s4, but we were stopped a couple of months ago and the cop said it was legal, and legal here in Mass is 35 percent. The interior is dark so it really makes the tint look even darker.

Tint looks good on this car, but IMHO I am not a fan of tints on an e36...

It's not for everyone, but the tint really helps balance the whole thing out... Contours are the right wheels for Dakar, too, as weird as that sounds... I * really* don't like DSIIs on Dakar, but I think they look pretty sharp on Arctic...

Only thing that doesn't sit well with me on that car are the clear corners. Amber definitely isn't the answer, but I wonder how smoked would look...
