    Oil pressure/temp gauges

    Can anyone here help me.

I track my e36 M3 and seem to be getting oil starvation issues. This can be for a number of reasons but does anyone have an aftermarket oil temp/pressure gauge DYI for the e36? I will prob use the column mounted BW bracket/gauges since I track the car.

    sure,

1.) buy an oil distribution block.

2.) remove Vanos oil feed line, install senders in ODB, install odb, install vanos line, run wires to gauges, run power and ground. done.

Or, you can get an M14x1.5 temp sender and put it in the oil pan drain hole. You really don't want a mechanical pressure gauge unless you are using a -AN stainless steel line from the pressure source. 200F+ oil spraying into the cabin because the cheesy plastic line broke is a bit of a downer...

Or you can get an oil filter cap with a tap for an oil temperature gauge (if you don't want to deal with an oil distribution block). I have one made by Ruff Racing. It has two taps, so you could use one for pressure and one for temperature. I only have an oil temperature gauge in my Euro cluster (I don't have any extra gauges in the sunglass tray or something) so I used the included plug to block the other tap. I believe they are 1/8-NPT ports.

OK thank you both for your help. This is what I thought.

        BW has this set up:

        with VDO gauges.

That is probably what I will do.

I have to drop the pan first though.

Ireland engineering makes a nice oil filter cap that you can also hook up an oil cooler as well. Much cheaper than the Euro version.

I can't say I've had the best experience trying to buy anything from there... ended up cancelling my order which they quickly obliged. It was almost like they didn't care to sell anything.

Due to my past experience, I don't even look at their products anymore.

I have looked at that part and don't like it for temperature sensing unless you are using a cooler as well. If you don't use a cooler then the oil up there is stagnant. You can get accurate pressure readings, but temps will not be accurate.

I just got a RallyRoad.net cap with the fittings for an Oil cooler. Very impressed with build quality. I have the euro cluster so i'll be running a temp sender to that.

Pressure you can just tap into the sender for the dummy light on the back of the oil filter housing id assume?

So what everyone there was saying is go the s54 route probably because its easier to source, but the euro 3.2 is the exact same setup. All those guys were saying baffle is not the best route and wish they'd gone with a dual pickup and people were still having starvation issues with the baffles.

Thanks for backing up my post
