    Tie-rod part list advise.

    Hi,

I'm ready to order the tie-rod assembly.

Is there anything else I should get beside the tie-rod itself for the job?

Any one-use nuts & bolts I should also order?

    Thanks,

    -GT

You should buy the locking washers for the tierods. Basically, it is a flat washer that you peen over so the nut won't loosen up. Also, you could order new hose clamps for the boots. (I reuse them but I remove them carefully).

You will also need a pickle fork and a small sledge hammer to remove the tie rod end.

This. Also an alignment right after, but that is a given.

I have a set of Lemforder Inner tie rods with lock nuts and locking washers brand new. All I did was take off the outter tie rods when I replaced my whole steering rack.

Yeah, too cheap not to replace. Do it all and be done with it for a while....

Wow, exactly what I was looking for

Is there a "recommended" DIY for the complete tie-rod replacement for the E36 around? I found a couple without pics and

                          this video

, so I have a pretty decent idea of how to tackle the job. However, if there is a great DIY that I haven't found I'd love to see it.

Overall this looks like a fairly reasonable DIY

I was quoted $349 for parts and labor PER SIDE for INNER tie rods only, which is when I noticed how (relatively) cheap the parts were started searching for DIYs...

That nut case went under a car on a cheap Chinese hydraulic jack. Not a good idea. Don't try this at home.

Ah yes, his terrible general practices and odd banter aside, at least I got a feel for how the parts fit together
