I personally have been using rotella t6 5w-40 for the past 10k miles...I just filled my car up with a fresh batch. I plan on filling it up with 15w-50 as the weather warms (ie as the level drops, add in 15w-50, after enough time the whole thing should be 15w-50 lol)

If its any consolidation, when I pulled my oil pan off after 10k miles on the t6 5w-40 it was SPOTLESS. I didn't even need to clean up the pan because it was that clean.

I decided to bring my own thread back from the death vs making another oil thread and having everyone and their mom going "OMFG not another oil thread search search search"

Okay what I've used so far is

          5w-30 Redline

          Shell Rotella T6 5w-40

          10w-40 Redline

          All the above burned oil

          ___________________

Castrol GTX 20w-50 which didn't burn any or much oil

Now its time for my oil change gearing up for the Winter months...

So I'm thinking Castrol gtx 5w or 10w-40

          15w-40 or 50

try out some Mobil 1 0w-40 German blend....

Or maybe go back to redline and try out their 10w-60 and rock that for a while

any ideas? All the above weights were found from searching this forum or google in general. At this point with the information I have provided I'm looking for opinions which weight you guys recommend. I know I can try any of the above and if it doesnt work next winter try something else or top off as needed...

I change about every 5k miles and never had the level drop on the dipstick. I get pretty close to the same amount being drained as I put in. 170k miles, no mods, Mobil 1 0w40 year round.

But if I'm already burning oil wouldn't I just burn right through 0w?

                I burned right through M1 0W-40.

I changed my 150,000 mile CCV to essentially a catch can with a return to the oil pan and vent to atmosphere and I still burn a shit ton of oil. But then again I do auto-X it every weekend. Motor might be getting tired, maybe doing the VANOS seals will help. I also have an oil leak in the Vanos area, will try to get that addressed over the winter (I really hope its not the timing chain cover).

I've been feeding it M1 15-50 all summer and now that the temps are dropping I'm finding that I'm getting more tick than normal at startup, essentially the oil is too thick for my climate. I'm switching back to T6 5W-40 as I burn the 15-50 off.

Valve cover gasket, I saw no dripping, was going into my spark plug wells and burning up that way. Was losing oil like crazy, like a quart every 500 miles bad...

Already did my valve cover Gasket and saw no difference then before I did it. Thus, I don't have the same issue
