ISC Coilovers - if you have them post here for info

Ok, to start, this is not a these are better than those, you get what you pay for, or they are crap because they are not TRM/AST/GC/Moton/etc thread. Please refrain from going that route.

I bought them during the group buy, so I know that there are owners here that have them, and this would be a good place for impressions and set up.

First I would like to say that these were not my first (or even third choice) of coilovers when I started shopping for CO's. It came down to what "the boss" said I could spend on a suspension that didn't "need" replacing. $1000 was the budget I was limited to, and I wanted to be sure I wouldn't go over it incase I need to replace any other suspension items while doing the install.

I do track, and this is my DD.

I went with the track/race set with 10k (560lbs) F/12k (672lbs) R. First set that was sent to me was a street set with 10k F/8k R, called AJ Performance (Andrew and Tim) and they sent me a return label with no fuss, just an appology and "we will get it taken care of". Had to wait another 2-3 weeks for the next set to arrive, pillow ball uppers were on back order. New set arrived, track/race 10k F/10k R, :confused, sent Andrew/Tim an email, they said run it, we will send you the 12k rears you ordered, cool, but it has been 3wks and they haven't arrived yet - need to give them a call. That said, they have been nothing but professional and "customer first" oriented, which is good in my book.

Install was easy, height and spring loads were done by comparing with other coilover systems set-ups posted by other members.

Shock adjustments are 32 way, which is nice, but the overwhelming consensus is each click would not produce a noticable difference. So I heeded that advice and adjusted them by 4 clicks off full stiff for each adjustment. Worked great, ended up with 8 clicks front, and 12 clicks rear off full stiff. I was able to notice the difference immediatley with each adjustment, and I ran each for about 2 days before making another.

Camber plates - The biggest draw back I noticed right off the bat was the lack of overall negative camber at full adjustment. So I removed the two inner most allen bolts, and moved them to the next inner hole, it gained me a little more. I have not gone to get an alignment yet, waiting on my 12k rear springs, but before I do I will do the shim mod as outlined in the definative alignment thread.

Caster - Not adjustable, but some was gained. I have THR eyeball arms, so I already had ALOT of caster with my '96 geometry and the off set THR arms. First fix will be to repalce my control arms with '95 m3 control arm, then centered CABs if needed (hope not, I really like my Eyeball arms).

I will post pics at some point.

    Some updates

The 95 control arms fix my caster issue.

Front is shimmed for more camber, but still no alignment yet. I added 2* worth of shims per side.

Put my swaybar on full soft and installed the 325i rear swaybar. That made the front feel better, the steering was too light and was pushing during regular driving (scary).

And I finally heard back from AJW Performance about my rear 12k springs. Not going to happen, they only go up to 10ks. So apparently you can get ANY spring rate in 2k increments AS LONG as it is NOT OVER 10k, dosen't sound like ANY to me then. So eventually I will be getting different rear springs.

That all said I still like them, the shocks are doing fine, and adjusting them at 4 clicks at a time (32 way) has made noticeable differences in the valving.

Seeing that I have now replaced about everything on the car, I figured it was time for an update on these coilovers.

Still like them. As of right now I have them set on full soft, and I fixed the ride height to 12.5" F/11.5" R. Using a phone based camber gauge (so take with a grain of salt) I am sitting at roughly 3-3.5* L/R camber in the front with the shims and then addjusted out (so there is more camber to be had for the track if needed).

I still need to get them on the track to dial them in, but I have about 5k street mile on them and they are quiet, still easy to adjust, and holding up well.

Thanks for the review. Looking to pick up a set. How is the NVH from the front camber plate?

        Cheers.

Fine, but my opinion on this is skewed... Treehouse eyeball arms (solid control arm bushings), solid poly motor and trans mounts, and a 3" exhaust.

Just saw this thread and figured that I would post up. I have these coilovers as well (ordered mine through Bimmerworld) and have been nothing but impressed by them. I've had them for about 6k miles now with DD duty and multiple auto-x's with quite a few HPDE's planned. The balance if the car is very stock like with only a hint of under steer (only on low speed turns), but I am driving a staggered set up with TMS sways FWIW.

This is my first set of coilovers, and these were recommended to me by a very good friend and Bimmerworld employee who told me that they were an excellent value. I would have to agree. The camber plates are my only complaint, but they get the job done. Note that when ordering from Bimmerworld the spring rates come standard: 8k in the front and 10k in the rear. I'll have to double check on that but I'm pretty sure that's what I was told.

All in all great coilover, especially for the money.

I also picked up a set of these for my E46 325ci. So far so good. Had one autocross with them and car is much more planted for sure. Still working on the ideal ride height, and shock settings.

On the road they're very comfy, except for large, sharp impacts, like 2in+ sudden road height changes.

E46_WOT and I posted our install and thoughts here. We both have 8kg/10kg front/rear springs.
