    Increasing low-midrange torque

After test driving back to back between my friend's 96+ M3 and my 95 M3 I realized that my car seems to have a lot less torque in the low/mid rpm range (2000 - 4000 RPM). I would like do some inexpensive mods to increase torque in that range. Currently thinking about getting a RR BBTB and a tune. Would this accomplish what I am looking for?

Should I also upgrade my injectors to the pink injectors (and a tune with that) so that I don't run too lean? I haven't been able to find the duty cycle with the current injector so I don't know if the additional mods will make my car run leaner. THanks

Your car has less displacement and the intake manifold is designed for more power up top. His OBDII manifold makes more midrange power than your car and chokes up top.

You may want to add a more aggressive diff to your list. He has a 3.23, and you're riding around with a 3.15 back there. That doesn't help the situation either. 3.23s are cheap and plentiful, and while it won't yield a huge difference, it's probably worth doing for what you want.

Adding a BBTB would do nothing. A tune might.

Easiest way to increase low end torque is a set of shorty headers and an OBD2 midpipe. Nothing else, short of swapping in an s52 or plumbing in an obd2 manifold, will get you the gains you want.

And after the S52, he'd swap in the S50 manifold, because...

Thanks for the suggestions. I think i will go with injector + tune for now. For the header I am not so sure. My result/response I see from the web goes from it makes a lot of power to losing power

The bigger TB improves power potential, but the reality is that you are not using all your current TB in the low to midrange. All the bigger TB does is open it wider with less effort. That makes it feel better to some people, but you won't actually make anymore power until it becomes a restriction.

The stock injectors are fine for essentially no mods. They are 17 years old, though. For that reason alone, I might replace them, clean and flow them, or replace them with larger ones when buying a tune. If flowing properly, they are not responsible for any loss of low to midrange power and with pretty much no mods or just a tune, they are not holding you up on the top end, either.

The tune will only help. Maybe it will add a degree or two of timing or lean out the mixture a bit for more power. Run only the highest octane gas with the tune -- 93 or 91.

Just get the Trm software tune and enjoy it..

Even if i love the way m50 manifold swap on obd2 m3s , i went for the Trm OBD2 tune instead and first drive i was just amazed how much low end i gained!! tons of low end and midrage through 5k rpm , after 5k it doesnt feel like m50 swapped obd2 m3 but until that woww

I dont have to downshift as much anymore with the extra low end and if you downshift from 3rd to 2nd tq kicks you back to the seat ...

If i ever move to a big city ill do the m50 swap and tune for that for a better highway performance but for now i just love the low end and midrange tq!!

Even if they are not good at answering phones, contact with Trm and get more information but get the Trm software tune first and if it still wont be enough you can get injectors or whatever you would like and they will only charge you 50 bucks for a new tune

It ll def transform your car... btw im using 93 octane software

                        Ahh long story ;

Im not driving it right now cause there is a cable by the stereo harness keeps blowing and wipers wont work and it often rains here

Car has been sitting for 2 weeks ,today was the first day i drove it to pick up some food .It was at my useless mechanic , I dropped the car 2 weeks ago on thursday one week later it was still there, He didnt even touch the car at all.I was so pissed off ,just picked up the car and I ve got an another appointment at another shop on thursday here in key west ( Im goin to turkey for 3 weeks, ill take it to bmw mechanic in Miami when i come back, kw is still freaking busy, no time)

After driving my 540 for a while, today my m3 felt so light and so quick on 1st and second gear i ve missed it but yesterday i did upset a brand new white charger R/T with black stripes and factory black wheels on the highway 80+ pulls we did couple pulls within 15 miles drive on the way back home and i upset him each times he wasnt able to pull away from me at all i was slightly taking him and he was letting me go after 110+ and IM sure he was very upset having that brand new charger with black stripes and Big HEMI written stripe on the side .i was with my friend with 2 luggages and as i saw they were 4 guys . Pls give me some time Im very disappointed and upset with this clutch issue and short at some cable blowing stereo and wiper fuses

I realized today I ve only put 2k miles on her within 8 months

All i can say is Trm software has made a hugee difference on my car, more than catback exhaust, ltw flywheel, afe drop in airfilter combined(over 1k)...

I vent even been in any forums for a while, spending 8 months over 5k on a 80k car and having this shifting problem, weird noise coming from somewhere in the engine that my mechanic of course cant figure out and this fuse problem have been upsetting me big time!!, i live in a wrong place to own a Bmw, im def moving away next year ..

Huh also im def switching to square setup with hankook rs3s when i come back, im tired of understeering also !!

Btw after the day i told u guys about the wheelspin shifting from 2nd to first and and thru the third i tried next day somehow couldnt do it car was putting the power wayy smoother i guess ill have to work on it before i take a video .Maybe i ve to rev match to higher rpm while shifting down to 1st and floor it.. Anyways i still remember the video promise, just need some time i ve done it once so i def can do it again..

I have to credit my high school biology teacher with putting BMW on my radar. He was this batsh!t crazy guy who used to tell us about this awesome car he had when he was younger. He had just gotten back from Vietnam and had a bunch of money burning a hole in his pocket. He was working at the Chrysler plant just outside of STL and all his buddies were into American muscle, but he bought this thing called a 2002. Funny looking thing about half the size of anything Detroit was building, but whatever. He told us how one night his buddies at the plant bet him he couldn't lay rubber in a figure eight and he went ahead and did it anyway.

So yeah, waiting for video of wheelspin in second gear.
