Automatic windshield wipers!!!

Here's a fun one: I was driving home today, hit a big bump, and the windshield washers came on, as well as the wipers. I couldn't get them to stop with the stalk, and the stalk was in "off", it didn't get jarred out of position. This happened at random times (not correlated with bumps) all the way home. It is acting like the wash contact is getting intermittently bumped.


I pulled out the ETM and there isn't much to this circuit. The problem is either in the stalk switch, or the wiper control module. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Not a lot of time to trouble shoot this right now so I will probably just pull the washer fuse until I can get to it.

You know, at some point I would get tired of all the electrical gremlins and have to shoot that car. I think the PO can not be blamed for all of the problems.

The thought has crossed my mind. And I have had the car long enough that I can now no longer blame the PO for anything. Its just an old car. Its my needy mistress, great in bed, but always asking for too much! But if I try to dump her my wife will find out how much she costs!!!


FWIW, it didn't do it this morning on the way to work. I am starting to look for switches.

Oh white hot, don't start that garbage! Op I am thinking the switch is getting worn out. I have heard of others with the same issue. I have not personally had this issue though on mine. Sounds like you are making some big time improvements to that car!

This particular gremlin seems to have moved on. No problems in a few days now. So I have time to look for cheap parts.


And yes, thanks, the car is coming along well. I guess one thing I have never mentioned is that the interior is near perfect, black leather, Vader mechanicals...Everything working (finally)! Yep, Ingrid may not be the best, but she's mine!
