    Conforti Air Filter replacement

So my ITG foam filter has completely disintegrated and I'm getting ready to replace it.

I've been reading that the disintegration issue is common. Some people say it happens if you wash it with a certain cleaner, and others say it just happens.

Has anyone here had this happen to them, and what would be the best filter to use instead?

I'm thinking about going K&N, but is there any disadvantage with running anything other than the ITG filter?

I recommend going back to the factory airbox ASAP. That disintegrating filter... where do you think those foam particles are going?

          That's a scary thought, but you're right.

          Don't know about factory, but I think I'll go for a K&N.

The ITG should not fall apart if it is cleaned and oiled periodically. Mine is 5 yrs old and still good. I assume that you have the have the carbon intake pipe and Euro HFM that went with the ITG, correct? I am not sure that others fit directly to the Conforti intake pipe, but I do know that Turner sells new ITG filters that are pre-oiled. I would start here......

If you wash the filter, ber very careful about washing the filter with MILD cleaner like this, not gas as some folks do......

            Good luck!

This sounds crazy, but I've had alot of experience with intake systems and this one works better than any. I just traded for a 99 Estoril Blue M3 5 speed and I went to Advance auto parts and bought the Spectre (short) cone intake filter (blue of course) a chrome 45 degree pipe(about 7 to 8 inch's long) and a 3 inch T-bolt clamp. Very easy to install and works great! A considerable increase in HP and sounds great!

I have the best filter ever! Pantyhose at the MAF inlet which is held in place with a rubber band. Sounds great!

Mine disintegrated also, but it was on the car before I purchased it and I'm sure it was overlooked as far as cleaning. I put a K&N on also seems to work the same and I know it's not going to deteriorate.

Oiled paper filters can fall apart if not cared for too. Foam and paper oiled filter should be cleaned and re-oiled frequently. I usually do mine every spring.

Funny to see this now -- a few weeks ago I researched replacement ITG foam options and found nothing besides Turner.

I blame myself for the foam filter decay, since I didn't wash it. So I bit the bullet and bought a new one.

A little off topic -- why searching I was really surprised how hard it is to find a Conforti CAI system for sale these days. They used to be common, now aFe and others seem to have taken over the market.

I think that there was an issue keeping up with demands on the fabrication of the CF tube

the inside of the filter doesn't disintegrate. the outside does. mines has 3 years of service and who knows how long with the previous owner. Its about time for a new one after washing it so many times, but for the price and looks id buy one again every time
