    Need help with pricing...99 Techno/Mulberry!

So I need some help trying to determine what this car is worth; here is the situation and details:

I have been looking for another E36 M3 and recently saw a 99Techno on Mulberry parked in a grocery store parking lot right near my house (M3's are almost non-existant in Montana.) I left a note on the car saying I would be interested if they ever wanted to sell; sure enough I get a call from the guy the next day.

    The good:

It turns out the guy is the original owner and it only has 83,000 miles on the clock. I checked out the car today and it is pretty dang clean. It is 100% stock. All matching vin panels, very clean paint, no heavy pitting or anything on the front end.

    The not so good:

The driver's bolster had some pretty good wear and the car would definitely benefit from a good clay bar, wax, polish, etc. There was one tiny spot of rust starting to come through just below the trunk lid but none anywhere else on the car. The problem is the maintenance. Cooling system is original, all suspension bushings are original, brakes are original, etc. I don't even think it had an inspection II. The guy is 70 years old and is really into street rods and from the looks of the car, and the impression I got from him, the car has probably never been driven hard and it has almost always been garaged.

The car has a lot going for it (rare color combo, one owner, low miles) but there are some pretty big negatives as well (lack of any maintenance.) I am pretty interested but have no idea what to even offer the guy. If anyone can chime in regarding price it would be much appreciated!

On to the pics (sorry they are iphone quality)....

    Thank you!

I'd price that high because it's my all time favorite color combo - seriously. Plus, it's straight, totally stock, has pretty low miles and owned by one man - this combo is almost impossible to find these days.

The maintenance doesn't scare me at all. If the car runs strong, shifts nice, etc.... it's fine. Just lowball the guy since it does need some work. If you could get it for 9k I'd say you raped him..... but he could get WAY more if he was patient and new what he was doing.

I agree, Sounds like this guy might not know what he has, If he did, he could probably get 10k-11k easy, If it was a enthusiast that wanted that color combo. Start low and see what happens, You will have to put some money into this car to replace maintenence items, but it looks like it will be like a brand new one once you do.

I'd say around 9k considering the exterior color. Much much more had it been a more desirable color.

even though its low on maintenance, that's a $12k car after a wash.

99, low mileage, one owner.. If you can get it for around $10-$10.5k, you did good, anything less and you took advantage of the situation

you do realize the more "we" as a community to continue to low ball every car you see, it hurts all of us. Whenever we want to sell our cars, the entire market is down.

If someone wrecks your car, the insurance company looks for recent sales in the area, to determine its value.

STOP lowballin everything. You are only hurting yourself....

In that case offer him $15,000 .... Personally I wouldn't go more than $8k it's purple and it has rust, sounds like he just drove it period.

Low miles and all original, 10-12k considering the 2k or so of maintenance it'll need (cooling, bushings, brakes, fluids, shocks,etc.). The rust is a concern, how does the underbody look?

Do you ever post constructive info Tom? Seriously? Your reange is from $5k to 13k? WTF? Stick to Z3s if you are not gonna offer any useful help for M3s.

OP: I think that you have found quite a car. With that kind of mileage and given the color combo, I feel that you would be doing quite well if you can grab that thing In the $10k range. It sounds like the car has not been abused or molested by some high school kid. To me, those are the worst things to see when I am looking to buy a vehicle. Good luck and please keep us posted on your purchase!

Snag that car! Too bad its not local to me or I would. 10k all day, and that's from a person who has no idea what he has. If it were MY car, I'd do a few maintenance items, and it would be in the M3 Forums classifieds for $16k OBO and I'd start the bidding at 13. But who am I kidding? I wouldn't be selling it.

                        My thoughts exactly

OP, that car looks great. Personally, I love the color combo. Once techno has had a good polish, it looks amazing. I wouldnt worry too much about the maintenance issues. Obviously they need to be taken care of, but most of the parts are fairly cheap(er). Whole cooling system can be had for $300, bushing arent too expensive, fluid change, etc. Save a lot of money shopping around for parts and deals and also DIY.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I'm trying to get enough finances together at the moment to make the guy a reasonable offer. I really hope I can snag this car. The owner still seemed pretty attached to it so I'll see how it goes. I will keep you all posted as to what I offer and what is settled on if we make a deal!

I'd pay 10k for that car.
