So Im thinkin about buying a M5 for cheap money 6500$ to be exact, its a 2001 with 150k.. problem is that I took it for a test drive and its seems to be not running on all cylinders or its misfiring with no CEL on. Does anyone know about these cars in detail about common flaws? I would like to keep it but i could also fix it and make a pretty big profit..Im thinkin new plugs and coil packs possibly, if so that wouldnt be too bad.. Im surfin the web for everything i can find about cons of these cars..............

E39 M5 general rule of thumb: Whatever the problem is, plan on spending another $6,000-$10,000 on repairing the car within the first year.Originally posted by m3aholic11So Im thinkin about buying a M5 for cheap money 6500$ to be exact, its a 2001 with 150k.. problem is that I took it for a test drive and its seems to be not running on all cylinders or its misfiring with no CEL on. just tossing it out there, and yes im sure I would get a better response on a m5 forum but im a member of the m3 forum, not much for trolling.. But I was thinkin about flipping it at such a low purchase price but then again it can come back and haunt me.Originally posted by kwippyou would be better off posting this on m5board or something versus the e36 section. But what Roland said they are very pricey to maintain. Probably cheaper to spend more money initially and getting one that is up to spec on maint.

If you can't figure out what the problem is, you probably can't afford or know how to fix it. Similar mileage M5s are selling for $10,000 or less, so that only gives you $3500 to fix the problem and get your money back out of it, assuming its in good shape otherwise (unlikely). Super thin margin for such an expensive car to fix.

wow, pretty blunt.. pretty sure you dont know my financial situation first of all second of all if im gonna go spend 7k on a car i dont need than im pretty sure i can afford it and third I narrowed the problem to either fuel delivery like pumps and relays or injectors. I was just seeing if anyone knew anything about this, isn't that what a forum is for??Originally posted by Roland HIf you can't figure out what the problem is, you probably can't afford or know how to fix it. It's not going to be cheap, that's all I know. I'd pass on it IMHO.

1. I'm a blunt guy. I put the facts down. You don't like it? Stay off the forum.Originally posted by m3aholic11wow, pretty blunt.. pretty sure you dont know my financial situation first of all second of all if im gonna go spend 7k on a car i dont need than im pretty sure i can afford it and third I narrowed the problem to either fuel delivery like pumps and relays or injectors. 2. Your financial situation is honestly irrelevant, but if you're looking at buying a $6500 car to flip, you're likely not loaded. I was simply pointing out how slim the odds of you making money off of this venture are. You don't like it? Stay off the forum.
3. You're asking specific questions about an M5 on an M3 forum... that is not what this forum is for, that is what M5board is for. Get real. You don't like it? Stay off the forum.
