    Is this worth it?

I'm looking at this m3. Haven't seen in person but from the pictures it looks clean. He did say the check eng light is on for p1421 & p1423. He's asking $8500 but that seems too high in my opinion. So that's why I'm asking here to get a second opinion from you guys. What do you think.

$6500 tops. But only after PPI says the CEL is the ONLY thing wrong.

Yeah, nothing special here. High mileage, silver on dove. These are probably the most abundant e36 m3's as far as color and build. Mainenance records are important. Judging be the description, I'd say you've got some work to do if you want to make it tip top.

If you really want it, then who am I to say what it's worth to you. I agree with enderw88...$6500 tops.

Again, maintenance records are important!!! If there is no documented maintenance, plan on dropping a few bills in it in the first year. e.g. cooling system, clutch, bushings, vanos, etc...

That is definitely a high price for nothing special. It looks very clean but I personally wouldn't go over $6500. Try to talk him down and if you settle at $7000 then so be it...if you have that kind of money.

Also, definitely get some documents and car fax on the car. Make sure the title is clean, etc.

        Good looking M!

Hey I appreciate all of your inputs. I was thinking the same as far as pricing but wasn't sure if I would be low balling the dude. I do have a carfax and it does have a clean title, 8 owners and it does show some maintenance done by the first owner. Heres the carfax

170K - I don't care if all those miles were done at 55mph and the roads were made of fluffy clouds and a service II was performed every 6 months and only their grandmammy drove it, too much $$$. I can honestly say I have the exact same car and bought it at 113K miles and paid 1000s less. as others have stated, there's nothing unique about this particular version of the M3 that warrants a premium on the price other than it's an m3. don't do it!

car doesn't look too bad to me. priced a bit high with those miles as others have stated. the 8 owners kinda scares me a bit..., but helps he has info from 1st owner, but prob. not much info.

                What I'd be wondering...

When was cooling system last replaced?

                When was the clutch replaced?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. He did say the cooling system has never had any issues and he put new hoses and electric fan/switch this summer. He also mentioned he changed all the fluids as well, clutch, differential.

A data point for reference. I purchased a 95, silv/dove last year in the Mount Dora area for 6700, 150k. In my opinion I overpayed a bit but needed a daily driver with little time to spare. My car was clean but had some common issues that needed addressing almost immediately. Do I think 8500 is too much? Probably. But it's also difficult to find any E36 M3 that's clean, hasn't been wrecked, and is in good overall condition needing little mechanical work. Of all the work I put into my car I'll have a hard time letting it go for a penny less than what I payed. Good luck. Patience in acquiring one of these cars nearly always pays off

I payed 4K for mine in almost mint condition. I really don't know what they go for but it's what you feel it's worth for you.

Car seems pretty clean, but for that mileage 8500 is high for sure. Make him an offer and see where you get!

8 owners?! Jesus!!! The guy has maintained the car, yet he doesn't want to fix the issue with a couple of codes before selling it? Hopefully I'm wrong and I'm just being cynical , but I'd be really cautious with that car.

I'm also looking at this m3. It is further away from me so if I decide on it I would have to travel. It has the luxury style interior but I really like Vader seats, What do you guys think about this, I think this would be a more reasonable purchase for the price and the fact that he has receipts for the work being done.

High mileage lux package with a newer motor and style 5s? Pass.

                              Better yet, run!

Clean and stock is the only way to buy one of these cars.
