    What's this part called/do?

    Hi guys,

Recently purchased a '94 e36 M3, with the 3.0ltr motor, trying to clean it up a bit and sort out a few small issues.

Just ordered a Bentley service manual but while I wait for it to arrive I thought I would ask you guys to help me identify this part that seems to be weeping a small amount of oil,

It's this small black rubber tit thing which is at the front exhaust manifold side of the engine, thanks in advance

that looks like your timing chain tensioner. If its leaking you can just do a crush washer and i'd replace the spring in there as they're known to compress over time leaving some slack on the chain.

Probably should come over to www.eurocca.net

The Bentley will be good for suspension and chassis but that's about it as it's a U.S. publication. Can alsochange out that tensioner for the updated version, it's far superior.
