    '97 M3 Radio question..

So I have the stock radio in my 1997 M3 and was wondering what anyone thinks of the Dice MediaBridge Multimedia Integration Kit. Just want to be able to use Bluetooth to play my music. I've heard good and bad things about Dice in general. So what do you guys think?

I applaud you for wanting to keep an OE radio in the dash. I've never seen an aftermarket radio that I think looks right in these cars. When I was in the same boat as you, I bought a Dice iPod module (not the MediaBridge-- I can't remember what this was called exactly) and while it's been fine, it has never worked flawlessly. And specifically regarding the Mediabridge, I haven't heard good things about it at all for E36 applications.

I like my aftermarket radio. It has bluetooth so I can stream audio/music and also has bluetooth for hands-free telephone.

i like those features too. i just dont want a vegas casino in my line of sight, or a shiny thing that reflects light and looks like a piece of bling one just bought a walmart. i like the dark stock bmw illumination at night and matching dash finish.

im not upgrading head units, im just going to build an amp setup in my trunk, convert the headunit speaker out to line level, have an input selector inline with the amps, and use my phone. there's a zillion ways to address a phones controls without touching the phone, ill figure a way to just leave it in the center console out of my sight, nowadays it can almost be completely done by voice control. outside of better "speakerphone" i cant think on one thing a head unit can do that a phone cant, other then power speakers but amps do that much much better. ive herd so much mixed information about the DICE products ive chosen to simply use the 1/8in output from my phone and make it work every time i want it to.

if that dice thing really works every time though it seems like a good buy, dunno

This seems to be the way to go IMO.

            Precisely.

The E36 M3 is a gorgeous merger of understated form and stunning function. I would no sooner put an aftermarket radio in the dash than carve my initials into the hood.

This!!! I have been looking for a solution for about a year. (got a cassette tape adapter now)

Real question is what it sounds like, and how well it works.

I had a tape adapter before I recently got a CD43. Any direct link is going to sound much better than one of those adapters. But now that the sound is a lot better with the CD43 and new speakers, I don't like being restricted by a single CD. I like the idea of throwing my first gen ipad paper weight with 64gigs in the trunk. Then I started thinking about installing a drive. But how to safely get it power, and do i really need more than 64gigs of music in my car? Running a USB extension to the center storage to easily swap out USB thumb drives could be cool as well. Lots of options with these things and it looks like they have a 30 day money back guarantee. I would be getting one of them right now but I'm working on my breaks this month.

EDIT: Just saw one supports FLACs... think I may need more than 64gigs after all.

                  Some aftermarket units look okay.

Thank you for all of the replies guys! I would like to keep the head unit stock because on my previous '95 M3 I had an ugly blue illuminated after market head unit. As of now, my mutli disk CD player in the trunk does not work (the car came with an aftermarket radio installed, but included the original radio so I installed that) so I hope that doesn't conflict on me installing something like the Dice.

At least that's in the right color family. Still too busy for the rest of the dash, IMO.

Also, what does it look like in the daylight?

Why can't someone just make an aftermarket head unit that doesn't look like it belongs in an alien time machine?

I think Dynavin should make something. Something simple, but has a lot of function. If anyone of you have heard of the company Becker, they make a decent head unit that looks fairly stock, but they don't make many and they cost a fortune.

I took this a while back, might not be the best pic tho, I currently don't have audio streaming for music, but I'll be adding a wireless gateway in the near future, so hopefully that'll take care of my Pandora streaming.
