    Vert vs. coupe

I'm own a 98 convertible M3 and the interior needs some work, there's a car being parted out around me but it's a coupe rather than the Vert. I'm looking for things like seats, arm rest, door handles and other similar stuff. I won't be taking mine out in this snow so I need to know what parts are different between the coupe and vert. If someone could just tell me what is convertible specific that would be great. Thanks!

I *think* the parts you named should be the same between coupe and vert but I don't know much about verts so check RealOEM.com to be sure. You can find part numbers for your car then search that P/N to cross-reference it to other vehicles to find donors.

For the seats, it depends on what year car they are out of. The electrical connectors changed a few times. If they're power or heated, that stuff won't work if your current seats do not have those features.

For the door handles (assuming you're talking about interior), they're the same. But lux package will match lux package, non lux will match non lux.

Arm rest is the same for all of them.

Front seats and door panels fit. Connectors are easy to swap.

Rear seat/bench, quarter panels are completely different and will not fit.

Handbrake console, with or without armrest will not fit verts. On verts the rear of the tunnel slopes upwards, on coupes it stays flat. Because of this the rear of the handbrake console has this cut out. The flat coupe one does not fit.

For the rest should all parts swap directly.

Thanks guys. I'll probably just pick up some small stuff this time and hold out on the bigger stuff for later.

Door handles? Coupes have different door panels.

Define door handles. Do you mean interior door pulls??

Only the passenger side of a vert has a different door handle, the one you use to close the door. However you don't need it per se. A coupe panel will fit.

While it's true that it will fit, an interior door handle (pull) from a coupe panel cannot fit onto a convertible panel.

One would need to change the entire panel.

So the door pull from a coupe won't fit on the vert panel, but the whole coupe panel will fit?

That is not true. The lower portion of the handle is the same. The vert's just have an extension upwards with extra mounting hole/screw.

The handle will fit perfectly, you are just left with a hole on the top.

Or swap the complete insert as well and that hole will be covered.

AFAIK, the door panels, door handles, and seats are the same between a vert and a coupe. It's possible that the vert seat tracks are different from the coupe tracks because the vert floorpan is a little different and the sills are reinforced. Even if this is the case (I know it is on E30s) you can swap tracks, as the seats themselves are the same.

As I said, the vert passenger handle is different, but all panels will fit.

Seat tracks are identical as well. Verts do have thicker sills (just look at the dead pedal/floor mats) This doesn't affect the seat tracks.

In case members are not familiar with vert passenger handle:

Ever Swapped an insert? That's a big project.

Let's stop grasping at straws here. Leaving a "hole on the top" on your convertible door panel because you swapped in a coupe handle is not a result that ANYONE should be pleased with.

For practical and sane purposes, the coupe panels are DIFFEReNT but are InTErcHANGable.

                          Leave it at that.

I DO know what a convertible door panel looks like which is why I raised that issue.

Swapping the insert is something that is outside of the ability of 90% of the folks that frequent this forum these days.

It was you that said a coupe handle does not fit. I just told it will.

Define big project? Compared to what? I didn't see any mentioning of what could be easily swapped.

And no, coupe panels are not different. Only the handle is and only on the passenger's side.

So for sake of correcthess, the driver's panel is identical, so more than just interchangable.
