nope, the E28 isnt mine. it was a buddy's and he sold it last summer but currently has an E60, E46 and E36 ///M cars in his garage....no worries, they are all pretty much stock unlike mine
Eh just have fun with it Chris! In a couple years you will look back on all this with nothing but utmost fondness, having had your car tastes refined by the whole process. .
I mean, everyone that's been @ m3f long enough remembers Cal's e36 when he first started. . bling chrome rims, banging custom sound system and all. .
It's a journey and chances are high this wont be your only m3.
Keep it up OP, even if this thread has been made into a train wreck by others.
This forum never used to be like this, it's worse than bf.c now because at least at bf.c everybody knows they're being a twat. Everybody here seems to think they're entitled to act like children.
Nobody should have to put up with rudeness in a civilised society and people who can't criticise without being rude should say nothing at all irrespective how passionate they are about their own perspective.
If you can't be civil keep it to yourself is a lesson most good parents teach their children.
And your question about moderation is valid, this thread is a stark example of moderation failure.
i def plan to keep posting...namely because i want to contribute to the forum. ive read other people's threads, solved problems, found inspiration, etc.
the health of the conversation comes from multiple opinions, differing tastes & styles but all rooted in our unifying love for the same car...no matter what final form it may take.
keep the heat coming if you like, keep the love coming if there is any to be had...i welcome it all
took some time today to detail the engine bay...i do this about once every other month or so. ill have to polish that strut bar again soon...the aluminum fades so quickly.
ive gotta replace that damn button soon too. they keep popping off and going lord knows where...
i also took some time to wax the vinyl finish this afternoon. when applying gloss vinyl the felt tip of the squeegee puts little micro scratches in the finish. easily remedied though with a quick wax job. you do it just like a regular gloss finish. it really brought out the shine and hue of the gloss red.
polished aluminum is easy to maintain, but you need to do so daily in a harsh environment. take a microfiber with some dish soap to it daily and itll look fine, you just need to wipe away to top layer of oxidation. if you dont then it builds up and grows exponentially. there's a railing i installed in a restaurant that still looks amazing 10 years latter because the cleaning service wipes it down twice a day with soap, its never been repolished. clear coat looks like crap, looks like candy if thick, and looks like dirt when thin.

Look closely around the air pump and positive jumper terminal box. My back valve cover plug will pop off from time to time. When they're still in the engine bay, they've been hanging around somewhere in that vicinity between the air pump and back side of the strut tower.

When I bought the car the rear plug was missing but after a minute of searching I found it under the secondary air pump. I ended up buying some new ones for like $6 because the clip on the missing one was broken
Keep posting OP, I love seeing the "purists" loose their shit over stupid things like caliper paint. . Seriously though, I've enjoyed your posts and think people should be able to post their car updates without having people being pricks about the choices. Don't like it don't post in here! Pretty simple... people just feed off of being negative. this place would be much better if people kept their ******* opinions to themselves. Some people are constructive with their criticisms, but most here are not....
i wanted to keep the OEM projector look with the bright background and pair it with yellow on the high beam. the only thing is, most people who do Xenon upgrades drop in black projectors and yank out the old glass to improve clarity. i was poking around the internet and saw a couple guys simply cut the center of the OEM glass out and retained something very close to OEM looks on the lights. i purchased a 75mm diamond cutting bit and gave it a shot.
not perfect (there was some minor chipping on the back end of the cut out) but i really like how it came out.
i need to replace my highbeam bulb bc its blue....and behind the yellow glass it gives it all a greenish tint during the day..
