    E36 m3 Evo mfsw I-bus connection

    hi guys

I've fitted an e39 mfsw to my m3 1999 and have connected the White Cable from the slip ring to the yellow cable at pin 7 at the radio harness connector which is the ibus wire. I fitted an autoleads wiring adaptor to my aftermarket Sony head unit and absolutely nothing happens when I press the buttons on the wheel. I have connected the power cable to the steering wheel and the buttons light up and the horn works as it should.

Is there a way to test the buttons work? I've connector my multimeter to the cables and I get no voltage or resistance value when the buttons are pressed. Am I missing something?

I know this is a popular mod so someone must have had this trouble before.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Aftermarket stereo? Don't you need extra electronics to make it work? Sorry, I can't be of much help, but I tried to put an aftermarket unit in my wife's civic and it was just insane all the parts you needed to get the steering wheel controls working correctly for the radio.

    In for a solution.

Yeah an aftermarket stereo. I have the autoleads adaptor box to add the steering remote functions but nothing happened when pressing the buttons. I can't work out how the signal is sent along the ibus line to test if the buttons are actually sending a signal.

This would easily with a CD43 headunit. Aftermarket ones? I don't think so easily.
