Climate control spazzing out. Doesn't always turn on, then gets stuck on.

Climate control unit has been acting up since I removed and redid my headliner. I'm really not sure how that could effect it though.

Unit will sometimes turn on with the car, but not always. It will sometimes turn on, then off, while driving. If it turns on while driving and I push one of the vent selections, and then it turns off, the vent selection stays lit green. I turned the defroster on the other morning and it showed that it was on even after I cycled the car on and off.

90% of the time, the unit is "off" or looks off. I cannot turn it on.

When the unit is "off" the vents are open and warm air from the engine is brought into the cabin. Air speed is directly related to driving speed.

Anyone have any ideas? Fuses appear to be okay, although I will need to inspect further. I keep thinking it has to do with the headliner, but I can't help and believe it's an unrelated coincidence.

    Thanks!

That would first spring to mind if it only runs on full speed.

Or any unexpected speed, it turns out. Before I replaced my FSU the fan would work fine for about 10 minutes and then it would slow down on its own, even with the setting on max. Maybe it was just beginning to fail.

My understanding is that if the display unit is doing weird things it's generally the capacitor. if the fan is doing weird things and the display is consistent, it's probably the FSU.

Following up to let you know that this was the fix! I took photos, so I'll make a DIY (eventually).

I cannot thank you enough! I was worried I wouldn't have it fixed for all the driving I needed to do Easter weekend. M3AN, you rock!

I was so surprised that my hack soldering actually worked when I did the resistor. My FSU/FSR still went bad about a year later, though.

Did the resistor 6 years ago and still going. If only everything was this easy to fix...
