    Sag...What's the Cause?

The PO had replaced the glove box...I just can't figure out the cause of the sagging and whether that causes the light to not come on when the door opens. I do know that the support arm is really a flimsy piece of plastic. I looked at the latch; however, it doesn't seem that I could do to improve upon unless there is and I don't know yet...is there? (see pic).

Its the inside lip that starts to pull out. I ran 2 screws into mine, close to the latch, and it doesn't sag anymore.

the glovebox sag was usually caused when it was removed in order to replace a clogged cabin filter.

The vent/catch section has a hook system that holds itself into the glovebox opening. When this section isn't hooked in correctly it can cause the sag you are seeing.

The minimal sag after fixing the vent portion is due to everything being made in plastic. I personally do not subscribe to the wood screw method. Tacky AF. You can use properly placed hand pressure while securing the factory screws to help dial out the gap but really you have to either come up with a fix, or buy new.

Same problem - same sag- following new door installation. Not sure how it needs to be rigged.

I made this mistake once. Caught it fairly quickly, but it's a really important tip. I had photos but lost them when my phone SD card wiped itself.

I have a spare box pulled out right now. I'll photograph it.

Did you put the screw here by the arrow (see pic)? Still, I am have difficulty picturing the functionality because when the latch tongue depressed, how the screw advances!

I think what you're saying it should latch at the yellow arrow but instead, it's latching at the red arrow (see pic)...correct?

No, I'm not talking about the latch at all.

The glove box is multiple pieces. The VENT SECTION removes from the glovebox portion. When you incorrectly reinstall the VENT SECTION it screws up the gap significantly as you have shown.

Okay...it seems that its flush (see first pic)...anyhow do you have the correct method to share...would love to hide the screw at both ends as well as have the light comes on when the glovebox door opens. The bulb tested working.

The cause is very clear. And this can be avoided. When you remove the glovebox, remove the glovebox AND the vents as ONE PIECE.

If you try to remove the vents alone, the plastic hooks will break or at least bent.

This whole sagging wouldn't have been an issue if people would remove it in that order. First remove as a whole, then you have room to unclip the vents, without upsetting the little plastic hooks.

I have a nearly 20 year old and an 18 year old E36 and never had issues with a sagging glovebox lid.

I do have to say, this is a bad design error. Having the catch and hook on two separate pieces. The catch should've been on the glovebox housing itself.

Thank you M_Parallel...okay, I get it now and the PO might have just bought only the glovebox when they did the replacement. I hope Braymond show the glovebox he has out...maybe I can jerryrig and duplicate the clips.

If anything, buy a new vent trim, which will have good hooks and should take away the sag.

And of course make sure the glovebox is properly fitted. Otherwise there will be play between the glovebox and vent trim, regardless of the hooks. Although not as bad as broken hooks.
