LF: Input on a Estoril M3 Sedan

    Good morning gents,

For the last few months my friend has been looking around at the used car market without much luck. Last week he found this listing:

    http://www.approvedautoaz.com/invent...21%21-Tempe-AZ

Admittedly, as someone that's unfamiliar with the e36 platform, Tiger Motorsports and RD Sport I was hoping that some of you might be able to shed some light one what some of the underlying/potential issues could be & what to look out for.

Should he stay away? Thoughts on the vehicle?

Any input that helps is much appreciated - Thanks for looking

By my calculations it is determined that 93.54% of the members on this board will say that you - I mean your friend, should passssssssss due to the modifications and overall look of that car. The price to undo the things that were done will cost you - I mean your friend, would be better off starting with another example.

Those fender flares look hideous, bumpers look pure rice, don't know what those tumors are on the trunk, ricer pedals and steering wheel. Motor is a 3.6l now?! And 330rwhp?! Yeh right. Fast and furious junk. Was probably a really nice car until they got their hands on it

              8k.

That's the most you should pay for it.

For some reason I thought the extra aero bits looked like they were add-ons to the OE & could be removed fairly easily. Guess I was wrong. It's a shame because the paint really does look like it's in great shape. Ah well

You could pull those trunk things off, get m3 bumpers, decent steering wheel, pedals and wheels and make it look decent. Those fenders would be barable with some true wide wheels with meaty rubber. Who knows what the mechanicals are like but at least you'd have a clean car. To do all that though I would not drop 15k on the initial price

Oh for sure now that I know they're not just add-on pieces. To be honest - it's a little embarrassing to admit I did not notice the flares.

A lot of folks here are fairly new to the E36 model (I'd say majority of us here have owned an E36 for less than 5-10 years) and therefore, when it comes to buying the E36, the safest bet is to get one in original condition.

That said, the front spoiler of the E36 M3 in the ad appears to be a Racing Dynamics Class II front spoiler. If it's a genuine part, then it's not ricey at all. It looks like it's missing the splitter but you may be able to source one from RD Sport (long story, Racing Dynamics decided to market its cars under RD Sport here in the U.S. due to business related disputes) in the U.S.

While it's true that there are many incorrectly installed aftermarket cheap imitation stuff that you should avoid on an E36 M3, don't overlook the ones that were properly modified with good quality parts from back in the days. Unfortunately, many quality aftermarket companies have long discontinued selling parts for the E36 and therefore, spotting these parts isn't easy.

It's hard for me to make an assessment from the photos. But I would look more into this car and ask for more information about it before I walk away from it.

With what they did to the back I wouldn't touch it.

Even if its got some decent RD parts on it, the flares look like they were shaped with a sledgehammer, the rear wing is full retard, that hamman rear bumper is garbage even if it is genuine, which I doubt it is. Someone literally paid a ton of money to ruin a car.

Man I can't believe everyone is just glossing over the engine. RD was/is the only company offering a 3.5L stroker S52. I know it is advertised as Tiger Motorsports having built the motor, but if it has the RD stroker parts in it, and if Tiger is reputable in their work... this is a big deal. Do most people nowadays not know about this?

I don't know what the 3.6L designation is all about. If memory serves, 3.5L was the max you can do on the S52 block due to cylinder wall thickness. If it truly is a 3.6L, I would dig a little deeper into the engine work.
