Where (else) might someone list an M3 for sale?

This is *not* meant to be a thread about what's wrong with my car, price, etc., I'm hoping for some other useful venues in which to offer it for sale.

I really need to find a new home for my '99 M. I've listed it with Craigslist (again and again), the marketplace here, Panjo, Autotrader, and Cars.com. I've run the price up to the top of the market, and I've offered it at a price where I'll bury it in the front yard and plant flowers in it for a penny less. I've posted lots of pictures, told the story, not told the story, posted without pictures, and am about to try the yard art plan. It's been up for sale for over two years.

Where do e36 5speed Convertible M3s that look good and drive good, actually sell?

    Thanks.

I just looked at your ads. I would do a thorough detailing and post up detailed pictures, not pictures of the car looking dirty and neglected. I'm sure the branded title is putting a lot of people off, so with some really good pictures that show a clean car in good cosmetic condition I think you might get some more bites. My $.02.

You need to get your "branded" title in check. It actually does mean it was salvaged. You're probably just confused by salvaged meaning completely destroyed when it means the dollar amount to fix was enough to write it off. The title that car holds is a SALVAGE title, despite the severity of the accident. It was brought up to spec to be put back on the road. Most people are not fooled by this. You are priced too high and it is a convertible.

Your approach to this thread is a direct reflection of why it hasn't sold. You've assumed that the reason it hasn't sold - in TWO years - must be due to not knowing where to list. Can't possibly be the car itself or the price or even your listing, since you've tried everything. News flash - it's the combo of your car, the price, and your listing.

          - clean the car.

          - take better pics somewhere other than the back lot.

          - be simple, clear, and specific in the description. Your "story" sounds like just that, a story - covering up and not providing details.

          - price it like a high mile salvage convertible.

          It will then sell.

To answer your question - eBay or bring a trailer.

I'm in northwestern Oregon, about twenty miles east of central Portland.

What 'details' have I left out? Sure, in my latest ad here, I tried a little hyperbole in the phrasing (nothing else seemed to be working), but every statement is true and complete.

Your thoughts on e-overpay are taken, and I might list it there, with a reserve, before pushing it off a cliff if nothing else pops up. (I didn't understand 'bring a trailer', I wouldn't hesitate to drive the car anywhere).

I know what I can part it out for. I've been willing to take about a $k less than that to keep it on the road, but don't see a reason to do less.

I guess it is true, that if in my arrogance, I'm unwilling to sell a car with this kind of power and handling for $2300, I must have the wrong approach.

              Thanks.

Done that. For four weeks mine was the cheapest M in the country (including MANY with a damage history--seems the occasional M3 driver meets the hedge).

Are we really down to only four or five practical sales venues?

                  Thanks

Funny bit: You're not the first to bring up 'vert'. I love my ragtops (this was my sixth, third by BMW). Do (well working) ragtops have some sort of kryptonite installed in the S52?

Sure, they're heavy, and not suitable for serious track work (hence the lack of coilovers and a supercharger on this car), but at least the A6 and C4 drivers can see your glee as you blow them away running up San Fransiscito Canyon.

What posters seem to be missing is that I accept the possibility that in theory, I may value the car higher than the market does. I just want to hit every reasonable place to offer it up before I quit paying the insurance and either take it apart or put it on a plinth in my shop.

It's not that you are posting in the wrong online sites or with insufficient quantity. It's the price is too high and the ad on here doesn't tell me a thing about the car.

Get rid of the "wordy-wording" story in the ads, nobody cares. Be clear what the title says: salvage? Be clear and precise.

Be clear and concise about the work that has been completed; Bullet-points, no adjectives.

Clean the car and the engine bay then take many, great pics with a scenic background. Just go to a park and take the pics at least.

Close up pics of the top. Folks who have convertibles know the issues and want to see the seams and hinge points.

Where are the interior pics? Did I miss them? You write the interior is in great shape. So what. Show the buyers.

Great pictures will speak for themselves for the car, not a bunch of silly words you've cobbled together.

List all maintenance and provide proof if possible. Why should a buyer consider your car? What makes it unique? Focus on those traits.

Price accordingly: $4500 max if the car is salvage. Even then that may be a stretch. You may think the car is worth more than that number but you're wrong and you either want to sell it or not.

The simple fact is this: the car is a nearly 20 year old convertible BMW m3 with a salvage title and nearly 200,000 miles. This fact alone should be proof to you of a very limited market.

Craigslist. Cars.com. Facebook regional BMW groups. Autotrader. Racingjunk.com. Bring a trailer auction. eBay.

If still no bites then lower the price. Only one reason, at the end of the day, why a car does not sell: price too high. Pretty simple really.

Finally, do a grammar and spell check of your ad. You lose credibility when you incorrectly spell Bilstein.

Try posting it over at Pelican. Porsche guys have deeper pockets and maybe there's someone who has a daughter / granddaughter that just loves Purple and would pick it up to give her rides to school.

I hadn't been aware Pelican had a buy/sell section. Thank you.
