Fuel Pump Replacement question. Am I going crazy?

I am in the process of installing a fuel pump and fuel level sender on my 95 m3. I have got the stock one out and the new one is in place. My trouble is fitting the hoses on the the connections. The smaller hose was easy. However, the larger hose has a slot that goes almost all the way down the connection. I cant get the hose to go onto the connection enough to seal it, so when I turn the car on, fuel squirts everywhere. I can't force the hose to go on any further. I feel like I'm missing something really simple.


Has anyone else had this problem? I cant find about it.

See how the larger hose connection is slotted? How do I completely cover the slot?

Are you sure it's supposed to be slotted? Was the old pump slotted like that? I'm not familiar with the '95 M3 pump, but that seems weird. It seems like some sort of connector would fit over it. That doesn't look right for a hose.


Additionally, the pics of the stock pump at ECS tuning don't appear to have a slotted fitting:

EDIT: That slot doesn't go to anything, Its a dead end. You're installing the wrong pump. Check your old pump. You need the pump with the return, like the 96+ pumps have.


EDIT2: Now my apartment smells like gas since I looked at my old pump.

yes as far as i remember that connection should be blank. I have my tank out right now so ill take a look tomorrow
