Knowing I'm OCD about small details, I really really really want it to look oem. I already have this steering wheel in alcantara, I wan to try and get it in leather now :

And I know I'll lose my calm stitching this. But what I plan to buy the leather and try it once myself, I kept the used Alcantara material to have a guide when cutting the new material.

I find it expensive at redlinegoods, the ask 169$ usd, I can probably get a new m tech 2 steering wheel for a little bit more.

That's a great looking OEM wheel. Also interested in the leather. Do let me know how you make out with obtaining one.

          Cool, cool.

          That looks nice!

I just wanted something grippy that matched the car for track use, so I shelled out a bit of dough for those Cars and Coffee points.

I absolutely want to keep all oem parts.

For the clear lights, it's a question of taste. I hate the 3 colour combo on the tail lights. But love the amber in front.

I actually find that clear corner lights look cheap.

Yes I am from Montreal. There are quite a few modes e46 m3 and newer but e36 are pretty rare around here. I know 2-3 clean e36 in the province !

Cyber Monday was a good day.

Ordered some supersprint headers since they are 50% off.

Also ordered a bunch of small misc items :

Only thing left is Z3 steering rack. Found 2 on ebay for 200 usd but sceptical to buy from a scrap yard without seeing the part first.

Also played with my abrahams ltw wing.

The riser was crooked so removed it and straighten it to make it look better.

              Before :

              After :

I can’t wait to start working on the real stuff. I have something getting done to my house and will have to take my car out of the garage this weekend sonI didn’t start any big jobs. Once work on the house done :

              1: both front wheel bearings

2: check both front and rear suspension

3: headers install and find exhaust rattle

4: fix small coolant leak from coolant level sensor. Will also replace the sensor while at it.

              5: spark plugs

              6: oil change

              7: steering rack replacement

              8: RK tune

Car will go to the body shop as soon as it’s out of storage to take car of some small rust dots that appeared under the trunk rubber seal.

              Long winter ahead !

Spent the whole weekend working on the car.

Removed the expansion tank and put some teflon tape and screwed in a new level sensor. Hopefully it won’t leak anymore.

Bumper was sagging a bit, so removed the 4 bolts holding it and adjusted it.

Put a brand new oem corner light.

Jacked the car on stands and started working on it.

Slowly making my way to the hub and bearings.

Had some trouble removing the wheel bearings race, but eventually gave up and just bent the dust collars so I could use the puller and pull them out.

Will need 2x part number 2.

                  Everything is out.

Can’t advance unfortunately until I get the new dust protection collars. Hope the dealership has them stock, but I guess they wont have them.

Sourced a z3 steering rack. Will arrive soon. Hopefully won’t leak.

Can’t wait to finish the bearings. Will proceed with removing the steering rack and the whole exhaust system to install headers.

Had the same problem when I did my wheel bearings. Ended up pulling the race off using the dust shields and replaced them. Interested to see how you like your tune. Keep up the good work! This would be the time to add brake cooling backing plates btw or remove the stock ones so you can install aftermarket ones later.

Hmm, I don’t track the car so cooling ducts are a bit overkilled. Maybe if I find a diy that looks clean I’ll look into it, but don’t know if I want to spend 200$ on a brake cooling vent kit.

Here’s the difference between a good and a bad bearing:

One had water and rust inside.

I'd say you could check out my build thread but photobucket killed all my pictures. If you take off the OEM shield you can add aftermarket ones while the hub is on. I'll try and get pics of mine. I don't have ducts and hose yet but wanted it in the future

Getting the dust collars today. Dealer wanted 16$ each lol got them for 6$ each from someone else.

Why does bmw always inflate prices on parts like this ?

They do this with everything even bolts. Even plastic clips for trims. 7$ each we can only sell you 10 of them. Still can’t understand the logic.

I get my clips from China via eBay but I'm a track rat and not as much a purist.

Your thread is helping me learn about the front heat shields since I'll probably add front ducting in the future.

Been busy with other stuff and didn't post much updates.

Car is done and driving. Need to finalize the suspension/spacer setup so the 255's don't rub in front.

Ill try to post some sound clips of the supersprint/AA/strömung/RK tune sound.
