    Power steering cooler kit

After doing some major jobs (clutch&flywheel, oil leak, RTAB etc) I am out of things to do and I need some project to keep my boredom away for the rest of the winter.

So I looked back on my trackdays and remembered it was always the power steering that failed first. So my question: Is power steering cooler kit worth the install? Any alternative suggestions are welcome!

How was it failing? Boiling? Leaks?

Selfishly asking because I'm getting my car ready for track use and I wasn't aware of issues with the power steering (outside of leaky fittings).

Quick search reveals this as a decently priced kit:

Not sure about getting parts in Japan for you though.

Well I have to point out that both my engine and tranny mounts suffered failure during the periods I've seen my power steering hose fail and burst out power steering fluid. This happened when I did gymkhanas or drove on tracks with lots of hairpins.

visit my place tomorrow near Tokyo, we will have to change the upper oil pan on an Alpina E32 B12 M70 engine. Have to drill some holes into the trans bell housing to get to some bolts of the upper oil pan, otherwise the complete trans has to come out.

I did this in the paddock at Laguna Seca after my hose broke free around turn 9. It's held up ever since.

That's a damn good offer, I've been planning to visit Tokyo for some time but I am busy until the end of the month... Really would like to see the work though!

Your link looks promising. What do you think about this DIY in case I cannot get them?

I don't see why not. I bet if you replace the trombone with a finned cooler like that and a fan that's wired to the ignition you'd be good.

Wow... Will do this with my old hoses!

Any luck with the high pressure hose? Is it the same deal as the trombone and the return line?

                      Thank you!

The trombone is a low pressure return line so it cools the fluid before it sends it back to the reservoir
