Help on e36 slicktop coupes rare but how rare?

Last November I picked up a 97 black m3 coupe 5speed extremely good shape. 20k in service records. 175k miles it's been stored most of its life with the bulk of the mileage in a 3 year span. Not sure what my plans are right now with the e36. What I'm looking for is production numbers on slick top e36 m3's by model year. I am well aware of the last 7 vin look up with my car still matching all factory built finishing zero swapped parts.

    Slick top= no sunroof

Sunroofs were factory equipment on e36 models unless special ordered. Looking for real numbers on these cars. Please help would be amazing

    Actually sunroofs were an option.

It seems like they were standard as most were ordered with them.

I've never seen production figures broken down by option or for slick tops.

I've seen speculation of under 5% of production and under 1%.

Until someone endeavors to run all the VINs and document the results we won't know.

No idea on the actual numbers, but I only saw 2 or 3 for sale across the US during the 9 month window I was looking at cars to buy. Amazingly 1 was local, and now mine.

What do mean by do something?

They can tell you the options on your car, but that's about it.

Why would your vin help a dealership tell you how many cars came without a ****ing sunroof?

Lol. Salty. You asked a stupid question, don't be angry about a sarcastic/rude response. Going to a dealer with a VIN for one car and asking for info about others is pretty backwards.

I believe the only reasonable answer has already been given: run all the VINs, count how many slicktops you find. There may be some software already developed for similar inquiries that does this for you, it really wouldn't be a complicated program, but I've never personally seen one.

Thank you! I will find the answer. There is a exact number each year and color. I'm using other resources as well. Would like attach during sale at a reasonable Rob Myers auction.

Speak salty to someone else first, then ask a stupid question.....

Get a salty response from me. That's how things usually work. If you only ask a stupid question first I'm happy to help.

Nice way to introduce yourself to the community. Good luck with your info search and sale at RM Auctions.

Personally, many would pay more for a rare color car than a slicktop. For 90% of people, the sunroof is a functional and desirable option, with the rare exception of a track car build.
