    Techno Violet Dreamin'

Welp, after years and years of lurking and searching for an M3, I've finally landed into the one E36 I've always dreamed of owning.

Quick back story. Back in 2013, driving into my community college parking lot, every so often as I would see this Techno Violet E36 M3 parked and looking oh so good. In fact, I was so into the M3 that I would stand there and just stare at it wishing I could own something as beautiful as the M in from of me. In fact, It looked so good that I ended up arriving to class late numerous times.

Fast forward to 2017, I get a tip that theres a Techno Violet forsale locally. I immediately contact the seller and arranged to see the car in the next few hours. I arrive to the location and what do you know. That very same E36 M3 that would make me late was right there in front of me! At that moment I knew it had to be mine. We agreed to a price and then BOOM. My dream officially came true.

Anyway here it is. My new to me 1996 E36 M3 with 144k.

A bit dirty when I first got a hold of her but she cleaned up great

Got her in the air for an oil change, new side skirt fasteners and little more polishing.

Nice work. OEM high arch and black interior? Same spec as mine when it was delivered, although mine was on contours.

Exhaust isn't a supersprint. Looks like a UUC or corsa.

Congrats on an automotive goal accomplished. Feels great doesn't it.

Great color and fantastic year. I’m not sure if you know it or not but the nose panel and kidney set are wrong. 96 marked the transition to OBD2 but it was not a body facelift year. It should have the older nose panel and 96 had it’s own specific kidney set. Similar inward bezel style as older cars but there is a ridge on the inner lip unique to this model year only.

Here’s a good shot showing the ridges clearly.

Best bet is to trade it for an avus blue 95 m3.

What changes were made to the North American-spec E36 M3 3.2 during its producton?

Though there were no further mechanical changes to the North American-spec E36 M3 after the 1996 model year, a number of equipment revisions occurred before production ended in August 1999. These included:

-Byzanz metallic available (9/96-8/97 production, U.S-market M3 sedan only)

-Side impact airbags available as an option for M3 sedan (3/97 production)

-Power front seats available as individual option (3/97 production, already offered in Canada)

-Luxury Package option discontinued (9/97 production)

-Side impact airbags standard on all body styles (9/97 production)

-Illumination added to M shift knob (9/97 production)

            -Rear headrests added (9/97 production)

-Front armrest added as standard equipment (9/97 production, already standard in Canada)

-M Contour II alloy wheels available as a no-cost option (9/97 production)

-M-Cross cloth/Amaretta upholstery discontinued for U.S. market (9/97 production, still offered in Canada)

-Magma and Mulberry Nappa leather upholsteries (previously offered only in combination with Luxury Package) reintroduced to U.S. market (11/97 production)

-Three-spoke M steering wheel replaces four-spoke version on M3 coupes (3/98 production, already standard in Canada)

-Imola Red (405) paint available (3/98 production)

9/1996 is a 1997 model year. His kidneys/nose panel are 100% wrong. Plus there would not be facelift kidneys with prefacelift fenders...

I think over here 99% of people fitted the 97+ kidneys on pre-facelift cars.

But the 'lazy bastards' don't change the wings and side repeaters (indies).

Nice pick up, the muffler(s) are kinda gross IMO but hey, all things in time. Enjoy driving it!

Thanks for the feedback and MAN are you guys informative. I'm still learning a lot on this M3 and have yet to get across the different changes as they look very similar in the pre-facelift to facelift stage. Either way I really appreciate the information. I need facelift fenders now...

Noted, I'll edit that out and find out exactly what exhaust I have installed. Also, YES it feels more then great. Feels amazing to become an owner of this beauty.

Big inspiration btw. I hope to keep her as clean as yours. I need that damn LTW wing lol

                            Feeling is mutual.

                            UPDATE:

One of the first and most important areas I wanted to take care of were the suspension. Bought the car with Broadway Statics and was not a fan at all. purchased KW V3 and a Rieger GT front lip to complement the the front end.

Great choice on the V3s. I'm jealous, as I just have v1s. After the rieger lip explodes, invest in the OEM GT/LTW piece. While its stupid money, I can tell you are going to probably be enjoying this car for a long time, and they handle abuse very well.

As for the facelift fenders, I'd say instead of doing that go back to the early nose panel/grilles. Much less to paint, and I think the best looking front end setup. Or really, if it doesn't bother you just leave it. No one notices it unless they are insane like many of us around here. Its certainly not like it doesn't look great as is.

                              Whats the plan for tires?
