    Radio Reception and the Rear Defog

    Hi all

    I have a rather odd issue. I have a Pioneer aftermarket unit in place that I've had for about 5 years. Mostly it works great and does what I need it to, but lately, the reception has been getting worse and it gets drastically worse if you turn on the rear defroster.

    I understand the antenna is built into the rear window, correct? And there's an amplifier for the signal in the process somewhere? Has anyone run into an issue like this?

    As this car has become my daily, I'd like a remedy for this. I'm OK with replacing the rear glass (the windshield needs it anyway) because not all of the defrost lines work anyway. I won't have a chance to do that until next Summer and I was hoping it might be an easy fix.

    TIA

    The center wire for antenna, at the headunit side, is prone to cracking off. It's the soldered wire that lead to the center pin. Inspect it thoroughly.

    The connector to the left in his hand;

    I recall reading a DIS troubleshooting and repair kit for this, but I'd have to boot up the ol BMW comp to get it.

    Also check your rear diversity antennas in the C-pillars. Deoxit is great for cleaning any corrosion on the connectors (even small amounts can cause issues).

      Thanks Brett.

      Yeah, I remember that the antenna uses an adapter to plug into the radio. I've been needing to open up the dash so I'll check that. Headliner needs to be done so I'll check the C pillars then.

      Yes, the never-ending list continues.

        If you have breaks in the grid, that’s your problem... you can repair the defroster, and fix the issue, or just replace it...
