You People Are the Luckiest Alive!!! I WANT ONE

    Hey all,

I just wanted to let all you m3 owners out there know that you are the single luckiest people i know. I want an m3 more than anything. I am looking at 95's just because that is really all i can possibly afford but i will sacrifice anything. I drive a nissan maxima (97 gle) at the moment and really like it but drool over M3's. Just wanted to ask if there are any known problems I should look for in a preowned M3. Now im only 17 but i am the most devoted BMW fan there is. (that doesn't own one) So, please help me fulfill my DREAM!!! I want one so bad i can tast it. Thanks for the suggestions.

The '95 is a rocket. I have driven a '95 and I had a '97. The '97 had the DSC (traction Control) which was very intusive and slowed your acceleration. BMW has since improved the DSC. The '95 doesn't have it so you can peel out and drive it hard without the DSC kicking in or having to turn it off every time you want to drive hard. Also the '97 3.2L gave you a bit more torque lower in the RPM range, but once you rev up the '95 I didn't feel any noticible difference in power. I don't know anything about the differences in reliability between the models. Also if you shop around you may be able to find a '97 for a lower price. The '97 will in turn also have a higher resale value. But you can't loose, the '95 is an outstanding performer. For being 17 you too are very lucky. I had a Civic when I was 17.

Just wanted to say that owning an M3 has nothing to do with luck in most cases. Most M3 owners worked very hard to afford such a car. Hate to turn this into a political statement but saying owning something nice is due to luck is typical liberal propoganda. Anyway , I hope you find a nice M3 and enjoy it!

        Woah Woah Woah!!

I never meant to imply that you didn't work for your car or that you were unfairly rich. I worked for every inch or my car and paid for it in full. But either way I would stil say that you are lucky people. I hope i can be LUCKY some day too.

In my country...you would be the lucky guy. To start, you can only drive a car at 18 years of age and youngsters like you dont drive maximas here. That is considered a luxury car that only few can afford it. So...you are not in such a bad position after all. You can buy an M3 with your eyes closed. They are the most reliable beemers ever build. Hope you find one and enjoy.

Well i am happy to say that i am 17 and i own an e36 m3. It is a 96 white with black leather m3 coupe with 48k miles on it. I think it is a great piece of machinery. The only draw back is probably the harrasment i get from other people. They always say things like "Don't crash daddy's car." Other than that it is perfect. It has just the right amount of power, luxury, and handling.

To answer you question of what to look for; The rear upper shock mounts wear out early, The water pumps (oem) have plastic impellers This needs replacing. Plastic thermostat housing cracks and leaks. These are some of the obvious things to look for or ask about. Good luck on the hunt for your dream car. The M is a great car.

Sam, you are very lucky too. I am 28 and drives Maxima SE. Back when I was 17, i didn't even know how to drive yet. my first car was a Civic Hatch and sold that bought a Miata for SCCA. But my mind right now is all about M3.. i am selling the Miata.

Good luck in finding a bad ass M3..

I would love to know how threads like this are dug up. I mean it is not on a subject you would find in a search or anything like that.
