I have a 97 sedan automatic that seems to be alot slower since i Sharked it? This is the only mod i have done to the car, do i need a CAI to take full advantage of the shark with an automatic? My car just seems slow, i know its an auto but this is a m3?

well since its an auto, i would definitly take advantage of a tranny chip.. unless u do alot of the shifting yourself.. can u readline when diong the sport shifting??? i know my brother got the chip in his 325, and he said it definitly helps.. ive never ridden in it because its too damn slow
.. but yeah.. also to follow up with what shark said.. if ya want more power.. the injector leans ur fuel out, which means u need more air.. there for the stock box isn't going to fulfill the needs... exhaust is another crucial component (and next on my list)... when i got the shark i got the intake too... u may want to try the intake because that seemed to be key.. good luck with her

Hello Mcdonaldb,
I've just recently joined the forum and am looking forward to communicating with other people about my favorite toy. I don't know anyone who owns another M3 or any other bimmer for that matter. It makes it hard to decide what to do sometimes without another person who has the same vehicle you have. I live in a small town. The people in the local auto part stores look at me as though I'm from another planet when I ask for spark plugs for a BMW M3. My M3 sedan also seemed sluggish to me. I just recently completed my intake system upgrade. It consisted of:
1. Dinan Cold Air Intake
2. Dinan High Flow Air Meter (same as european version M3)
3. Dinan High Flow Throttle Body
4. Dinan Performance Software
I can tell you that it definetly makes a difference in the acceleration off the line. My nearest Dinan dealer is almost 3 hours away. I can tell you for a fact that I enjoyed the ride back home a lot more than the ride to the dealer. I was most surprised by the 2000-3500 rpm passing power on the interstate. It felt almost like they installed different engine into my car . It's not that much more power but how and where it's applied. My BMW Tech says it feels different because all of the parts and performance software were designed from the begining to work together to achieve a certain affect. He also told me that most of the people who want there intake upgraded go about it the wrong way. They buy peice meal parts from different performance shops and try to put them together on the car as one unit. They test it afterwards an are dissapointed. He told me that when you decide to upgrade any system or sub-system(Brakes,Intake, Suspension, etc.)do it with ONE solution only. Buy packages that were designed for your car and you will happier with the results when your done.
(Yes, I know I'm long winded.)

Thanks for all the help guys, ill probably start with the CAI, after i figure out why there was a very loud noise comming from my exhaust tonight, wish i could elaborate but i have no ide, it was about 11 degrees so who knows what part that played but it sounded like i had a hole in the exhaust, plus my blower motor(heater fan) makes a noise now when its really cold, im getting hit all at once so my money might be directed towards repairs before upgrades, the good thing is my friend ownes a precision tune and he is pretty sharp so he can help and has a warm garage and all the tools. But thanks for the help and advice, damnt should have got a stick!
