    Battery dead

well i was detailing my car in the garage tonite and i had the key in the ignition turned only enough to have the radio on , halfway through i get a call that my mom slid her durango off the road and had to go pick her up , dont like driving my car when the roads are freshly salted so i took my fathers car , when i came back (about an hour later) i realized **** i left the radio running , tried to turn the car on , no go displays flicker on then off and the car wont turn over i think i killed the battery

    I AM AN IDIOT:banghead:

I don't know how big your stereo system is but one hour should not kill the battery if it was in decent shape. Did you have your music really cranked up? Jump or have the battery recharged and then have it checked using one of those battery voltage checkers with a bulit in load. I suspect that your batter is low on capacity and that it might not start your car in the near future.

damn 1 hour? thats a lot to still have some juice.... my battery drains to the point where it won't start in a matter of minutes... but then maybe its cuz I have 2 amps and a DSP unit/display along w/ the headunit display all draining power... I left my radio on while I was drying the car after a wash and it wouldn't start when I was done...

anyway I would try jump starting it w/ another car.. then after it starts... go for a drive on the freeway for a couple miles so that the alternator charges up the battery.. then DRIVE HOME.. so if it dies you can jump it again.. or take another car to get a new battery and not be stranded... after being at home.. shut the car off... now try to start it up again.. if it starts up and everything is normal.. then your batterys OK and should be charged back up... if it won't turn over.. or doesn't have enough juice to crank over... then its time for a new battery.. but at least your back home...

I don't know much about stereo setups......but if you had alot hooked up to your car why wouldn't you get another battery just for the stereo system........could you do that?:???: :help:

GSRaCeRbOI, your battery should not die in a matter of minutes. I Had three amps, processers etc. in my last car and the battery could easily last an hour with the car off and then fire right up. You may need a new battery yourself.

I think it all depends on what you have... the battery was pretty new and I never have any other problems w/ it..... after it got drained that time.. I put it on the battery charger and its been fine since... now I just know to NEVER power my amps and stereo on when the car isn't running.. car starts up fine everytime..

                I have the following:

                Alpine CDA-7969 head unit

Alpine CHA1214 changer (i was playing from this at the time)

                Alpine ERA-G320 DSP/EQ

Alpine MRV-F407S amp for mids and tweets

                PPI PC21400 amp for subs

                Infinity Kappa front components

                Infinity Kappa rear 3 ways

                3 - JL Audio 12W6 subs

not THAT great but it hits...

I had it on a moderate/pretty loud volume w/ the windows open as I was drying the hood, fender and doors...

I had about what you had and your equipment looks nice. Maybe M3 batteries just don't have the capacity that others do?

optima batteries are incredible.. i know the 150$+ price tag scares everyone, but they are the best in the business.. definitly worth the money
