Question on the Automatic transmission M3

What do you guys think of an M3/4 Auto?

    How does the tranny hold?

Anything I should look for? This is my first BMW.

Has anybody who has a 97 Auto had any problems or heard of anything that I should know before I buy this car?

    Thanks all,

    Marc

For an automatic, it kicks ass. Just make sure you think it through first...a lot of people who buy the automatics end up kicking themselves later for not buying the 5-speed...myself not included....

IF you can, get the 4 door 98 manual, But they are rare and expensive....this guy was asking me $27k for a mint condition one...yeah, it was so new and all options....but man, with 60k miles on a 98 for 27k, no thnx. 4-door manual is the best M3 in my opinion....

If not the automatic is OK, not good for racing on straight-a-ways, but the handling and the feel of the car is great....i kick myself sometimes for not getting a manual but I live in Houston, sometimes I celebrate that I have a manual when i'm stuck in traffic. All depends on what you want.

As for problems, I have not run into any.....only the steering wheel rattling....

I had the auto tranny on my 95 go out, $2,100 to rebuild, a**holes at a Houston dealership wanted to replace the whole thing for $5,000.00 seems to stem from a mounting bracket which there was a recall on, I think....like others I wish I had the 5 speed.
