    Another M3 problem/question

I was looking at my M3 and saw that the front bumper wasn't properly aligned with the car, the side stuck out a little more farther than the car. So I unbolt my front bumper and slide it back into place so that the part isn't sticking out any more. And then I noticed that the bumper is only being held on by the bolts in the front of the car. The screws underneath the bumper and in the wheel well were just hanging there, griping on nothing but air and I notice that the black thing that they are supposed to be screwed to is cracked in every spot. So there is nothing there for the bumper to be screwed on to. And it is like that on both sides. My question is what is the black thing in the wheel wheel called? And where can I find that black thing? Thanks in advance.

                .

                .

tell me what item number it is, and on which drawing, and i can look up the part #. i also have to know the model & year and whether it is coupe or 4 door.

                    for picture #1:

the picture only shows the left side. here are the part #s for both left and right:

                    COVERING LEFT 51 71 1 977 047

                    COVERING RIGHT 51 71 1 977 048

"covering left" and "covering right" is apparently as descriptive as the database gets.

                    for picture #2:

don't worry, item 28 doesn't apply to your car. for the picture, i did a search on a 95, and that part isn't listed for a 99. fwiw, it is described as "spoiler front"

it's a 2 cd-rom set. one is a parts database called "ETK" (translates into something German, i think). the second is called "TIS" (technical information system database). it has all bmw models (including motorcycles and mini!), and i believe they come out with a new version every year or quarter or something like that.

do a search on ebay for "bmw etk" or "bmw cdrom" and something should come up.

                        (edit)

if you see it for less than $20 with a "buy it now" option, just go for it. the auctions often end above that amount.

Thanks. The info helps alot. I have that cd rom also but it won't work on my new computer. I have the window's xp edition and the cd rom I have only works for windows 95 and 98. Good stuff though. Thanks again
