Brake Light Circuit warning on computer

Last night, driving in Seattle rain, my computer started flashing a warning saying that I needed to check my Brake light circuit. I figured that a bulb poped.. no big deal. But when I turned off the car and turned it back on, the warning had dismissed itself. Also, I couldn't find any brake lights that were out.

Does this sound like an intermitent (possibly rain related) thing, or is it normal for a warning to go away after a restart?

Mine comes up with a break light circuit error also.. about every 15th time I start the car.. can't tell if it's on regular schedule, just everyonce in a while. But, I did check it and it ended up being a very small portion of the wing.. like 3 or 4 LEDs. I said f*ck it and kept driving. I havnt checked the wing when the error doesn't come on.. So I couldn't say if the actual light varies or if it's just the message that comes on everyonce in a while as a friendly reminder.

actually most of the time this is due to a faulty break switch.. the E36 is prone to having this type of problem and mine actually just occured recently so i just replaced it and problem solved

Also, use of "cheap" bulbs or bad contacts will cause intermittant failure messages...

You guys are awesome. I've only been on this forum for a few days and I've save hundreds in $$$ and time with info like this thanks to all.

I now have to check to see when my car was made to see if I need to get a new Water pump. I noticed that a lot of 95's I looked at all had done the pump. That made me concerned when the owner of my 97 hadn't. She's still in the shop from her accident I'll see her sometime in Jan.

Check it out had the car 10 days and some kid ran a Red light and hit me head on as I was turning with the green arrow. Luckly it was a very low speed impact and I had just dropped off my little girl at her mom's and I wasn't on my Sport Bike. Unlucky 2 months with out my new M3. I'm Soo JonesIn.

Merry Christmas Every one. I'll have my car back in 2 weeks!!!
