    Borla Headers for E36?!

I talked to David Borla about headers for the e36 m3 and he was telling me that they don't make them yet. But he is willing to make it if people are willing to buy them. So if anyone is interested let me know and I'll let David Borla know how many people want headers for their M3's. Email me with your name and your user name/screen name. My email address is [email protected]

I'll find out how many people have to want them in order for them to start making them. But if you guys could, get the word out to other forums and post my email address for them to get to me. Thanks guys.

As long as there prices are as competitive as their exhaust, I will definantly be in. Possibly work with them for a distributor ship of the headers.

I really didn't discuss it in full detail with him about the headers, but I talk to him tomorrow, I'll ask him about expected gains and how much he thinks it will cost.

As for my exhaust my retarded a$$ was too excited that I would be getting an exhaust and how it would sound that I forgot to ask about expected gains on my exhaust.

I have a question, I have no other mods on my car but the exhaust which is being put on. Will I even feel a difference? Or will I feel it way better with at least an intake? If so, does anyone have an intake they wanna sell. I just don't want to spend $300 on a CAI if later I am going to get a Supercharger.

You won't notice more than 3-5 HP gain on exhaust. The M3 factory exhaust is decent but is baffled a bit to reduce the noise. I think the general consensus is that a new exhaust will sound better, but only add a few more ponies. Now if you are going to SC your car, the new exhuast will come in handy down the road and will not restrain as much power. That being said, I would still take a cheap exhaust anyday. A few HP here and a few HP there can start to add up.

Thats true on a 96+, but some close friends of mine that own another shop have performed full exhaust on 95 M3's, and have seen gains in the upper 20's. One dyno sheet on a 95 M3 with EuroHFM already installed, with SS headers, SS full exhaust showed a 33whp gain. I never believed this my self until I saw the dyno's done. That really showed me how restrictive the 95 M3's exhaust is.

On a 96+ 3.2 with the new headers, cats and better piping, exhaust is merely for sound and looks as you said above.

Can you give me some competetive pricing info? It would be a a great help. Also if you could let me know what kind of gains are currently offered at what price that would also help (in other words, what's already out there?).

I have to see if it's even possible for us to get the gains you guys want at the price you're willing to pay. Our products are made in California, by hand and out of the highest quality materials available. Sometimes it's difficult for us to be price competetive with manufacturers who are making their stuff overseas out of inferior materials.

In your opinion, what's the best header available for the M3? What does it cost and what kind of gains does it get? What grade of steel is it made of? Stainless? Polished? This will help me figure out the feasability of this project.

Thanks for your interest and help.

Email me if you're interested in becoming a distributor.

well, i think most headers are stainless steel that i've seen. prices varies from $1k-1,400. one question tho, how would the performance be affected when cats are placed after the headers? i've read that only way you'll see gains from headers is by replacing the cats w/ test pipes........is this true? thx

I heard that evosport was working on a ceramic header system.

Supposedly the ceramic material has a higher heat capacity that helps reduce pressure to increase performance...or something to that effect. I'm curious to hear any reviews if anyone has gotten their hands on them.

Has anyone heard any news of evosport's headers for the E36?

Are there any disadvantages with the use of a ceramic coating?

How would Borla's headers compare to HIOP or evosport's, performance wise?

That's a very good question. Unfortunately there is not one answer. It really depends on the flow capabilities of the OE catalytic convertor. However, you are correct in your assumption that the gains of the header are dependent on the flow capabilities of the catalytic convertor.

i'd be happy to see 10-15hp gain with headers, exhaust, cai and straight pipes. but for this to be worth while for most, the price would have to be in sub $1,500. so considering, cai + softare=$500. a combo of header+exhaust+test pipe=$1K.

since cost of test pipe might equate to $5. is this possible?

yeah if ya ask me, most straights are a rip.. if ya think about it.. its a pipe that is mandrel bent and has a pair of flanges.. how can that be so expensive.. but i would love to see another 15 whp.. that would be great!

I'm not sure. That is why I'm asking. I've been inquireing about headers for a while now and I have found that there is very little information available about each product. I still feel like I'm in the dark about whether a header system is worth the bang for the buck for an (American) E36 M3. It doesn't seem like there is much of a market for them. I wonder why? It could be the 8hr+ of labor required for the install.

All that I know is that a header system for the M3 will definately increase/improve exhaust sound (sounding more like a V8), which is fun, and probably increase some low-end torque to a noticable degree.
