    3.0 Vs 3.2

I am thinking about getting an M3. I know the 95's had the 3.0 and the 96's had the 3.2. Whats the better motor? I one faster then the other? I need to be educated. And whats the deal with the water pumps on the 95's? Is there anyway i can know if its been changed?

just replace the pump regardless...........the pump is cheaper the a head gasket job. Make sure the impeler on the replacement is metal not plastic.

As far as 95 vs 96+, here are some concise answers:

FYI, BMW or whoever makes the pump for BMW, does not make the metal impeller pump anymore; they went back to a plastic impeller, though it is supposed to be alot better. You can tell the difference, the original plastic impeller pumps had an orangish color impeller, the metal ones were, obvously, silver, and the new ones have a black plastic impeller. The metal ones I think are no good, the bearings go bad in them and they leak and break drive belts, fans, and pulleys. The new one w/ the black plastic impeller is the latest and greatest, so if you're replacing, get that one. For example, I've replaced leaking water pumps on E46's w/ 15,000 miles on them.

Its unfortunate such an inexpensive part (water pump) can cost

so much havoc. Unaware that the metal impeller has also its set of problems. Its probadly better to change out waterpump every

                      2 1/2 years.

There is also a problem with the upper radiator neck I've experience of getting brittle and breaking off. ( another plastic part)
