    Timing Chain

I have a 95 M3 that has 52k on it and has started making some noise up near the timing chain cover. I have been told that it is maintenance free but I am having a hard time beliving that. has anyone had to replace the chains or tensioner? and if so are they available online anywhere cheaper than the dealer and what all has to be replaced gaskets etc.

    Thanks

I had the tensioner and guide (combo unit) done by a buddy at his garage. That is typically the only maintenance the timing chain requires.

Check out BMA auto parts for CHEAP_ASS prices...I love those guys!

Depending on what the sound is like, I would check and make sure the car isn't starved for a little more oil. The valves on M3s make a clicking noise when low on oil... Could be mistaken for a timing chain/belt issue
