    benfer intake

I wanted to let you guys know that i swapped my ECIS intake for a benferperfomance intake which has been discussed on the forum before. I did it because 1- the ecis is too quiet after hearing my friend with the dinan set up 2- becasue of the member who posted giving it two thumbs up. I have to agree with him because it is awesome!!! The Benfer intake is a keeper!!

Its sound is deeper ( not quite dinan loud) and pulls a good deal more off the line and mid range!! easy install. its a real CIA that sits in the bumper. no need to remove bumper to install it took me about 30 min. Great product i recomend it.

So you didn't have to remove the bumper, it could just be pushed down that hole (once the horn is relocated)? That was my major concern. How is the weight of the system compared to the ECIS, does it weigh more?

Same question! My main concern was the bumper part....

Now, will the elllipsoid lenses still fit? Were you using the JC intake?

I can have my hopes up again for this kind of intake now...

all that was required for install was to jack the front of the car up, un-screw the protective black cover for the undercarriage stick the filter itself up through the bottom and connect the intake from under the hood! Easy as pie! And no it was a ECIS CIA i was running before and the difference between the ECIS and The BENFER PERFORMANE CIA was very noticeable. its just like the Dinan as far as where it sits, right behind the bumper. Im going to try and rig something for a RAM AIR effect if it will fit where the brake duct used to be for 150 you cant beat it!

What about the weight of the Intake system, does it weigh more than the ECIS and Heatshield? I think the Benfer is make of steel, which can be heavy and may offset of the benefit of having it.

The ECIS CAI? is that the one with the heat shield and K&N filter?

Audio man, the weight of the intake is a little heavier than the ECIS and about twice as heavy as the DInan carbon fiber set up. The difference in pull off the line (revs even faster) and through the lower and mid range of the band offsets the weight difference. I would say that the unit as a whole may weigh 2 pounds. Here is a direct quote from Benferperformance,"Our intakes are made from high quality thin-gauge aluminized steel, then covered with high temperature heat-resistant coating".

Wicked m3, it came with a OBX filter which is made to the same spec. and out of the same material as the K&N.

00poop6x, Yes the ECIS set up is one of the CIA with the heat shield similar to the set up offered from TMS with a cone filter as opposed to the foam one.

How do you clean the OBX filter? Do you just purchase a K&N cleaning kit and follow the same procedures? Thanks for the info, we are just curious because $150 for a True CAI is a great price.

yeah Audio, since its made from the same material i used the K&N oil and cleaning kit prior to install. Yeah for 150 you cant beat it! Although i have now spent 315 on intakes alone ( the ECIS intake cost around 215-220) Ouch!!!! But atleast now ican HEAR and FEEL the intake at work sucking up cold air!

i have a ECIS CAI, and i have heard things about dinan's design that could possibly soak the filter with water and hurt your engine. why is this one different than that? even if it is just rumor or speculation, i guess i would not take the chance. BTW, what the heck is a water bypass valve? does this item take care of the aforementioned problem?

88BIMMER, you are correct if you get the water bypass valve, a sudden change in pressure will cause the bypass valve to **** in the air in stead of the filter. The only way you could **** in that much water is if you drove through like a foot of water and completely submerged the filter.

The same goes with the Dinan CAI. If it is submerged, there is a potential to **** up water. The bypass valve is just an extra measure of security.
