    Replacing rotors

Does any one know how or where I can get info on how to replace my front rotors and pads on an E36 M3?I replace brake pad on other make and model but never on BMW. :help:

I did it about a year ago with the help of a friend in the area. There really wasn't anything that complicated about it. Once you have the calipers off, you just unbolt the rotor, replace it, put the new pads back in and reassemble the brakes...

I wouild check/get a Haynes manual, that should have more detailed directions and should have torque specs with respect to the bolts on the system. Another thing you should have is a tool to push the pistons on the calipers back in to fit on the new rotors with the new pads... nothing extrordinary about these systems compared to other disk brakes. Make sure you use anti-sieze on the system so you can change the new rotors out when you're done and be sure to clean the old brake dust as much as you can while your doing it.

This is also a good time to paint your calipers if that is something you are planning on doing... I would also do a brake line flush at while you're there doing all this stuff.

If you want to check on my photo archive site that has some pictures from when I did mine you can click Here (http://66.245.140.160/photographs.asp). The brake job pictures are third from the bottom (1336-1369). They don't show everything but maybe they can help. If that link stops working, go to http://www.kchildre.com/gallery.asp and click on the link at the bottom to go to my archive photo gallery.

Hope this helps and good luck.

We'll that was only an 1/8 mile strip down in Albany and it was a close race... If it was 1/4 mile he would of had me, but i beat him by 2 hundreths of a second. My reaction time was god awful, but he was definitely gaining at the end... I think my time was right around 9.1 but can't remember.

It was pretty funny because it was a test and tune and a friend dragged me there. It was before i put in my intake, and injector and stuff plus I had about 150 pounds of crap in the back of the car including golf clubs, luggage, and a cooler that I didn't bother taking out. Good close race though.

what u guys think about the BMP cross drilled rotors?? they have a corrosion protection on them.. and then maybe some green stuff pads... just curious to see the reactions.. because i know im not going to like the look of the stock rotors behind the new wheels.. plus.. why not increase the breaking performance before my mods start to get outta hand..

              haha . . .

im sure the e36 m3 brakes are more than competent to handle anything short of FI

don't buy EBC green pads! they ****! you have to warm them up for it to effective and they wear out faster. i got 13k mile on them. Also the stupid clip on the pad that goes into the piston brake off very easy, they come all bent up and when you try to straight it out it brake. I thought it was just this one that is defected, i sent them back for a new set and it was the same again. but over all it did cut down on the brake dust.

btw, i don't ride my brake or abuse them. i put about 5k mile on my car a year.

PAGID pads are good, they made in Germany. That what i use on my car now. And they work great. less brake dust and stoping power is great in cold or hot temperture.
