I've been in a new M3 with the top down at 140, and let me tell you, besides for the wind, it feels the same as 60 or 70. It's so smooth and positive. I, myself, hit maybe 110+ in his AMG and it too feels the same as at 70 or so. These cars are so well built. Yet I wouldn't want to go over the speed limit in a Hyundai!!!

Depends on where you are. I always thought it was if you are over twice teh speed limit.

LOL! I have to agree. 100MPH is sweet FA.. I used to drive regurlary hit 135MPH in my 1994 320i.

Tell us when you hit 155 - then you're getting somewhere.

When I got my car I did the thing, I would hit exactly 100 and then back off, i do this every day on the way to work. On I-95 there is a section i travel on that is perfect for high speed runs. It is a long downhill section, 4 lane and a barrier runs btw the north and south bound lanes so you dont have to worry about the heat at all. The fact I come to work at 5:30 am there is no traffic at all. I started at 100 and now usually hit 130. It is better than coffee to wake you up.

It depends what the speed limit is. Some highways in Colorado are 75. You wouldn't even get pulled over for going 80. I think 20 over is a pretty good number for getting yourself into big trouble.

I was in the middle of Kansas last spring. I had just bought the car and was driving it back from Florida to Colorado. It was 5:30 in the morning, not a car in sight and the highway had a center divider wall so the cops couldn't catch you coming the other way and turn around really quickly. The road way straight as far as the eye could see. I hit 140. The car had some room to go, but man that was just a little bit too fast. It's just plain scary how smooth it felt at that speed. Needless to say, I wouldn't do it again, but the conditions were just too perfect.
