    hood pins? yes/no

i know i havent been around here for a while, so heres a recent pic. i know you cant quite see the hood but i'll get another one up here soon enough. my question now is do you think i should get hoodpins installed on there before i "lose a windshield and get a dented hood?"

because carbon fiber is so light, at high speeds air can get under the hood and cause lift. sometimes stock latches are not enough to hold the hood down and hoods have been known to fly off on the road, smashing in the owners' windshields and denting roofs.

i was just thinking if i needed them or not. i've taken it up to 100 before with the hood and no problems, but i havent passed 100 yet with this hood. another thing is if you guys think hoodpins look "tacky" i kind of think they give the car an indimidating look. also, does anyone know if hoodpins will cause the carbon to crack in the future (although im having it professionally done)?

i would say dont get them. I think people tell those stories to justify their need to have the racecar hood pins. I think that should be saved for the true racecars out there. However, if you like them then go for it, because its your car.

I like hood pins on some cars ... but not our cars. I associated hood pins with late 60's American muscle cars. I do like you carbon fiber hood however. What kind is it?

You may not want my opinion because I'm not a fan of the CF hood in the first place, but I think the pins look really tacky.

hrmm true. thats what i've been hearing from a lot of bimmer owners.

its a ViS racing carbon hood grade AA. I have a vented grade B hood for sale if anyone is interested. Brand new never installed.

however, the hoodpin stories arent all fabricated... i know this guy who owns a nissan shop and has a R33 GTR skyline... he had a hood but had no hood pins installed. on the freeway his hood flew off and smashed his windshield and dented his hood. I saw the car after this happened. it wasnt pretty. thats why i am thinking about the pins. im indifferent to hoodpins. they look sort of racey and cool but at the same time kind of take away from the more "traditional look."

so if one day a picture of my car was posted on the site and i had hoodpins..... dont hurt me!

this is such a hard decsion!

I would stay away from a cF hood unless I had a black car...it looks r!ce...sorry. Why not put the pins in...it might give it more of a racing look than a r!ce look.

Contrary to popular opinion... I'd go with the pins. I think they would go well with the CF hood.

Edit: But I'm an idiot and voted "no" so take one off "no" and add one to "yes"...

I would say probably yes to the hoodpins (less money than a new windshield + body work on the roof), but I would also paint the CF hood. If it's done right, it looks really good (aka doesn't look like carbon fiber), my rx7 has a CF vented hood (painted, no pins.. shakes a lot at high speed though... kinda scary).

                      Plenty of pics @ http://www.rx007.com

                      Good luck.

I'd get the pins. They can't be that pricey but the assurance of safety is worth it IMO. Plus I don't think they look bad at all...

Pins, schmins. You don't need no stinking pins.

If your latch is secure its not going to come off. The pins are astetic <sp> and for peace of mind
