ive heard that the ASC is restrictive as far as airflow goes on the later cars... how restrictive are we talking.. is it worth removing that part on the throttle body? are we talkin 1 whp or 5??? and how hard is it to remove without screwing up the traction control system?

You might want to check out www.baybimmers.com - I think a few of the guys over there have done the mod. Its only like 30 bucks for the part from the dealer and you can switch it back to stock if you want, so you might just give it a try and see what happens. I know it will leave the ASC light on all the time once you remove it.

This is a question that I have been wondering about too. I never understood why someone would remove the ASC all together when it can just be turned off with the switch. However, if the module is blocking airflow all the time, I guess removing it would give you a slight increase. I wouldn't want to deal with the ASC warning light blaring me in the face all the time though.

actually haven't been able to test it.. the insurance is off the car as of right now.. won't be back on till around beginning of march.. i can tell ya then.. lol.. but going down my driveway felt much stiffer.. no creaking.. when u put it on u can see why it would help.. it ties the front suspension to the chassis.. very nice mod.. i haven' driven but already im impressed with it.. they should have had it on all E36 models..

thanks for the link.. yeah i was just reading all the old threads about it on bf.c and they were saying that they get much better response even though it shows no gain.. why would this be?? is it torque that they are actually gaining? ill probably end up getting rid of it.. i did also fine this site..

that was one of the sites the guys put down.. but it doesn't seem like its a bad job nor a bad idea.. actually makes a lot of sense when u look at the ASC TB.. so i have a feeling im in for it.. that will probably be the project in the spring though.. i gotta go back to school today to prepare for the upcoming semester.. argh..

I don't know why it shows no hp gains even with the better throttle response, I'm no engineer, wait yes I am:banghead: It is a very easy job to do, took me like 10 minutes and I am not a great mechanic.

I removed my ASC and I love this mod!!! I don't have the part # in front of me but check the old threads...
I would rate it as one of the best mods out there...it also made it easier to install my custom CAI because a flexible rubber boot replaces a 5-10 lbs module. (Wish I could show you the pics but I am 1/2 way around the world from my M!)
Seat of the pants...there was a significant difference and with this and the CAI I shaved 0.3 seconds off 0-60 and 0.4 1/4. Some of the gain is due to practice. I also HATE our vrsion of traction control...too intrusive even in the rain!
The ASC module is very easy to re-install...but here is the kicker...I pulled out my Gauge cluster and removed the ASC lightbulb. I knew how to do it from my chrome bezel install. If you want to do this...I will give you the skinny on how to do it easily.
It took vaseline and small hands...(that's what she said...YIPES!)

lol.. engineer.. im one in the making.. lol.. thats what i don't understnad.. there must be a full torque gain then.. thats the only thing i can think of.. if ur butt dyno catches it.. then its gotta be the torque.. i guess ill have to do it.. u guys are talking me into it (as if it was hard.. hehe).. and especially if it can shave some time off at the track..(which my car hasn't seen in over a year).. then i guess its going to happen.. as long as the only light will see glow is the ASC then thats fine with me.. i have heard of guys throwing CEL's but they must have just not done it right.. thanks guys..
