    Dead Gauges?

is there any reason that all, except my speedometer gauge, would die and stop working on my 99 M3???

I think there is a sensor somewhere in the rear of the car that senses the speed. Maybe the wire or sensor broke?

PM Angella, I think she recently had this happen, or maybe it was her RPM sensor. Anyway, she fixed it any maybe you have the same problem.

A couple years ago, I noticed my gauges acting funny on my 95 M3. First, the tachometer would turn off for a split second. Eventually, the problem spread to all of the gauges (speed, fuel, temp, etc.). Sometimes, they would be off for extended periods of time and then turn back for awhile. I ended up getting a whole new instrument cluster with the correct odometer reading programmed into it last year. The dealership told me there was something wrong internally with the cluster, so it had to be replaced. I had an independent shop take a look and they tried a few things like cleaning the contacts and re-flowing the solder, but the problem eventually came back.

mine was that all of them worked, except the speedo : )

it was just a sensor (I guess it uses a magnet or something?) that's stuck right inside the diff. In the bentley's, it's called the 'speed sender'.

I've never heard of this one... that's gotta be multiple sensors inside the engine... so something that joins them together must be getting flaky...
