What's the highest speed you are willing to downshift in for each gear?

    Long but descriptive title right?

Let's imagine you are going to race someone and you are going say 50 mph. You know that 2nd will take you to 60, but you'll have to shift soon. If you didnt' have all the time in the world to downshift, would you stick it in 2nd quickly and go or just be lazy and keep it in 3rd.

My limits are around upper 40's for 2nd and about upper 70's for 3rd.

I sorta raced this crappy old Eclipse the other day from like 78 or so in 4th. He pulled very very slowly for like 1 second and then I was going fast enough for 4th and it was sad.

i wouldn't bother over reving my car for a stupid little race.. i would just leave it in third and proceed.. no sense in pushing the engine any harder with the higher revs on a race that is pointless.. therefore i like ur approach..

maybe if I really cared about the race...but luckily this car has a enough touque that the high rpm downshifts aren't as necessary.

My god, to make it through a light in my friend's G20 I have to downshift from like 4-2.

      It's horrible!

at 50 i wouldn't down shift to second just because you would loss more time shifting again immediatly afterwards than the jump you got from the extra power.

Usually, for downshifting and accelerating I will go one up if I'm within 10 mph of redline. If I'm decelerating usually no more than 4500 rpms.
