My 98 sedan is the same way, although not quite as pronounced.

Both front and back left side measure around a quarter of an inch higher than the right. (Measured from center of wheel straight up to fender lip.) I've read several posts on bimmerforums.com that state that this is normal (the bentley manual states that the ride height between left and right sides shouldn't vary by more than 3/8" or something like that.)

I surmise that the higher ride height on the left is to compensate for the driver's weight (if you sit in the car, the difference should be significantly less).

That said, three finger's difference is definitely out of spec-- three of my fingers is about 2 inches. Is the car parked on level ground when you measure? Most garage floors are not quite level...

IF you aren't sure if it''s level just back into the spot and take the same measurements.

Her fingers may be significantly smaller. Regardless, have someone sit in the driver seat, then compare the two sides.

My 99 does that too to an extent, about one, maybe one and a half, but I'd assume that is due to offset the added weight of the driver
