    Rader coverage question

Good Day- I have just purchased a Passprt 8500 since the Wasp(W.S.P.) people and I are getting close to being on a first name basis with each other and because I am having a tough time envisioning myself without car Insurance the remainder of my life. My question is how is my rear coverage effected because of a smoked rear window(this was done before I bought the car and it seems fairly dark) I don't want to remove it unless it severly comprimises my coverage,in fact, I would like to smoke the rest of the windows soon. Does anyone have any info. on my situation? Thanx for your input. Jon

First of all, your 8500 doesn't have a rear facing antenna, so it doesn't matter if your rear is smoked like it would with a V1.

Your 8500 just reads reflected signals from the front and reports them.

Your rear coverage is okay and I often pick up cops behind me, but in general those aren't the ones that scare me.

You really don't need to worry about rear radar detection. The rear antenna on the V1 is just and excuse for them to charge more. It's effectiveness is minimal. Any radar that is being shot from behind you will bounce off of something in front of you and hit your front facing antenna.

Astan is correct in not being to worried about the ones behind him. It's the ones in front of you that cause all the trouble.

Just don't tint the front window at all.

Hi Astan & Kupolo- Thank you very much for your quick and informative reply, it really does make me less-stressed!! I love this car (95m-3) and I would be very depressed if I could not afford Ins.

plus, it was my understanding that tint doesn't affect radar detection, just laser. That things like windshield wipers etc. (metal content) screw with radar...

I read on radartest.com that radar WAS affected.

Go check it out...there is some very informative stuff, but take all reviews with a grain of salt. The man is SUPPOSEDLY biased against V1's.

I hadn't heard the metal content thing, but that could be legit too...who knows.

huh, I would imagine that some tints could affect radar (those with metal content), but your nicer films I would think wouldn't... you learn something new everyday.

You guys know about the electromagnetic spectrum....and also you guys know what tint is mainly used for in our vehicles.

Police radar is a microwave which is a much lower frequency than ultraviolet light and even our visible light. If tint were to reduce UV radiation to entering in our cars and cause nucleic acid point, frameshift, and 3rd base wobble mutations in our genes affecting chromosomes....tint has an affect.

Metal does have an affect....every try placing a metal fork in your microwave? But since police radar is a much watered down intesity, you don't get a fireworks show.

Anyways, these things deplete and affect the signal to our detectors very minimally (especially the 8500 and V1 and others in the same category). Except for those who have "limo" tint:roll:

or have an alarm harness that wires things backwards to actually maybe transmit signals scrambling radar! Way to go Alan! jk

HAHAHHA...hey, my alarm was actually wired correctly. All I had to do was tap into a new positive lead...it was weird man.

Stellar wires their **** differently than that one site with diagrams online, and it works!

I just had to wire the double locking myself with diodes because Stellar is a lying POS company.
