    Does your Girlfriend/Wife drive stick?

I'm just curious what kind GF's "car enthuasiasts" have.

My girlfriend drives stick... I taught her and then she bought one.

She's pretty good and drives the M quite well...not that I let her touch it too much.

She has a 2000 civic 2dr EX 5 sp. Man that thing is slow and needs torque.

Yeah my wife can drive a stick. She has only driven my car once or twice and she refuses to drive it now that it is so loud with the UUC exhaust and low with the GC coilovers. I ever so often ask her if she would like to drive it because I know she will say NO!

My wife of 27 years does not know how to drive a manual gearbox and doesn’t want to learn how. She insists on driving a nice car (she currently drives a loaded 2001 X5 4.4 we bought new) but then she fails to take care of it. Never checks oil or tire pressures and has it washed every 3 months or so if it needs it or not. It’s disgusting! But note I said wife of 27 years. Her car care habits are a subject I never bring up. I just keep her in car that is always in factory warranty.

Yea, I am the one that takes care of the maintenance, my only gripe is she doesn’t have any idea how to check the oil or tire pressures and doesn’t even want to learn how. She says that’s my job, but I still do the dishes every now and then!

I don’t really like to wash a car. That’s what a car wash is for.

My GF has an auto Passat with tiptronic(which she never uses), but she knows how to drive stick. She basically thinks that using a car for anything other than getting from A to B is rediculous

My girlfriend's brother is a Lexus mechanic and she is really into cars. The first car that she bought was a 1991 Toyota MR2 stick. She then bought a 240hp Gen III 3S-GTE(not street legal in US) engine for it shipped over from Japan. Unfortunately the car got totaled the end of last summer before she could put the engine in so now she is leasing an '04 Acura TSX 6 speed. So yes, she can drive stick.

My wife only drives stick. Both she and I have never owned an automatic. Sometimes she drives the M and gets really pissed off when kids try to race her. She tells me that she has to show them not to mess with the M though. She also leaves all the car stuff to me.

My wife has a Passat Wagon stick. The "wagon" part was my concession, the "stick" is hers. She actually doesn't mind it, but it is kind of annoying for her with the kid and traffic. We will see about the next one though.

I do have to agree with ubersnax and others, the rule in our house is the car is my responsibility. I am fine with it though, when I met her her car barely ran. It didn't even go in reverse so she had to watch where she parked. Her family's philosophy was if it ran it was a good car. And "ran" seemed to be pretty broadly defined! I figured the fact that she has come to appreciate cars as much as she does now is a miricle, so I am happy take care of them.

hahahahha...I hope they drive that stick or else why do you keep them around?

EDIT: a.vixen yelled at me for my horrible comment, but I'm not a terrible person!

Ouch...astan100, you sound a little too manly for maybe your own good.

I'm a girl, so can I use my husband for my comparison? He drives stick, as do I. I learned when I was 15, had no choice. My mom handed me her keys and told me to go to the store. It was a toyota 5 speed and the big saying was "what gear should we put it in? Third!" Gotten much better since then but sometimes long for auto especially in traffic.

Sorry...I should have titled it "significant other".

I'm actually not a male pig! My girfriend would probably tell you I'm kinda of a wuss.

                            T2 started it!!!!

I've used that argument since I was 5 and I'm not going back now.

                              Hey

Read my post...I simply asked if it was a trick ??...could mean anything including that we were being male chauvenists (sp?) for suggesting women can't drive a manual!!!

But...the question was...can your wife/girlfriend drive a STICK?! A legitimate question amongst a crowd of mostly type A personalities...you don't by this car if you are a wimp...thoughts??
