What exactly is this "Dinan Package"

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2456320936&category=61 31

I emailed the seller, his name is Leon. I tried asking him what the "Dinan Package" was.. He blew me off because I also told him that he is asking too much.

So.. you guys think that his asking price is reasonable? $32,900 for a 99 vert w/ the "DINAN PACKAGE".. whatever that is..

well it definantly has the intake and it looks to also have the dinan exhaust.

The dinan package he is referring to is most likely just the 10 points which have led up to the dinan badge the car is wearing. If you are unfamiliar with point values i believe they appear at www.dinanbmw.com

When you hit 10 points you get a dinan badge on the back of your car, a badge not sold to the public but only given out to customers with the required dinan mods. This car could for instance have: exhaust, intake, floor mats, transmission chip because it is an automatic, and engine chip. That i believe would provide 10 points to warrant a badge.

THere is a cheapest way to earn a badge but i believe it takes about 3.5k to earn it the cheapest way.

So in summary, calling it a dinan package is worthless because it could be eny number of combinations of dinan parts for different parts of the car. It is also way overpriced for the market and for the car itself.

It is not necessarily over priced. There are basically 3 prices that used cars go for in the car industry. Wholesale, private seller retailer, full retail (from a dealership). For this car those prices are $27000, $29000, and $32000 respectively. The reason you spend more for the car from a dealership is they leagally have to do all repairs, licensing/registration in order to sell it. Most of the time that means you can be confident this car is in good shape. I say most of the time because you can never be sure, there may be some things the dealership may have missed, but if they find something wrong with the car they must fix it.

Now to answer your question are they asking too much, well I can tell you they didn't pay over 27000 for the car, unless they are poor businessmen. A dealer will not buy/trade in a car for over wholesale Blue book, that would be bad business on there part. Usually they try to get the car from you for $1000 or more under wholesale blue book. So as you are looking for a car make sure you know what the blue book value of the car is, you can get this at www.kbb.com.

In addition blue book values DO NOT take into account modification to the car. The money you dump into your car is only for your enjoyment and WILL NOT be recovered when you sell it. Ofter times mods will lower the value of your car (according to the industry) because you do not have "original parts" and it may show that the car was abused more. If you notice a "Certified car" will not have any mods, that's because the manufacturer will not certify a car that does not have original equipment.

Anyway, that is my long wided answer, I hope it helps. Good luck in your search.

I have a couple of friends that deal in used cars. I asked them what my 98 M3/2 with 65K miles was worth at a wholesale auction. $15000. After I asked I sure wished I hadn't because I owe about $5000 more than that.

I guess what i'm getting at here is, yes, $33K for that car is "higher than a cat's ass" (redneck for too expensive).

punksta thats at an auction.. that doesnt count. dont let that get your spirits down.. cars at auctions go for squat!

we bought a 190e for 6k.. we could have gotten it for 3k or less from an auction..

The real cheapest way to get a DINAN badge of course is just to buy one on ebay.

They sell for like 200 or something! Which is crazy of course, and you would be a total loser to put falsely badge your car, but whatever.

I think that the car is too much also. Like everyone else said, don't pay extra for mods. I got my car cheaper because of the mods on it...it was great!

You could probably afford to pay for the badge and more off of eBay if you bought the real Dinan parts from a supplier and not directly from Dinan.

My car is a CPO and it had mods on it, all Dinan, and all done at a BMW dealership (which may be why they certified it). When I went to have the Dinan throttle body put in, the local dealership said that the only way to get the Dinan badge was to have the original receipts for the purchases/install.

                    From the Dinan website:

I bought a used 97 with Dinan CAI, chip, and exhaust. I guess I'm 3 points shy of a badge...
