HELP!! 1997 M3 MAJOR electrical problem

    Hey guys

I am interested in purchasing this 1997 m3 with 50k, everything is immaculate on it except one problem...the glove area had a fire in it and as a result the wiring that was near it was totally burned the other areas of the interior are excellent ,seats drivers dash etc etc....the enigine is immaculate ...i assume the ECU is located right under the passenger dash??.

.so it was burned...now that title is salvaged..everything is pristine..and i think that particular area of the car's wiring has to be redone..a new dash has to be installed ..carpeting and new passenger air bag..how major of a job is this? and is it worth buying the car?

and if its worth it..is there any place that u guys can suggest that will do the job for a decent price and not rip me off like a dealer would?

    thanks pppl

it can be a major pain, and there could be electrical gremlins that might not ever get fixed. each case is different... there are so many sets of wires running through the dash that it is hard to give any kind of guess as to what needs to be replaced. your best bet is to hire a good mechanic to go look at the car and estimate the job.

I think the better bet is to leave the car alone and look for another one!

          Agreed.

The ECU is located near there and also many other wires (approximately 30-50 or more from what I remember). Burning into the wires can cause them to contact and short on each other affecting the alarm...computer...discharging the ECU and what not. If they are selling the car for $5, get it.
